The cardboard would be correct for an inside view showing you how to connect the cables.  Since it gives the stripping details of the cable that is probably it's intended use.

EDIT: it even says "Inside view" on it,

Yes but the cardboard says "INSIDE VIEW".  Take the top off, turn the plug over as if you are about to connect a flex to it, and then compare the inside terminal markings to those on the cardboard and report back.

EDIT: Time was you did not need instructions to put a flex into a plug.  At a very young age as a boy, my MOTHER showed me how to put a plug onto a flex.

I bet it is not even taught in school now.

It was an intelligence test at school, left over from the days when they had taught it, bit pointless when nobody was!

How many people have round pins these days?

Last I remember seeing any was in my Grans house a long time ago, other than that I think I have seen them with the retro wiring system we were looking at a few years back.

Just finished wiring in the last 5 Amp socket switched - at @ProDave 's suggestion -  from the bank of switches next to the front door.

It means that when SWMBO comes home and feels a bit 'jangled' she can switch all the 5Amp lights on at once  (and she can switch them all off on the way out of the house). Thanks Dave.

yes I remember (when quite young) seeing an American film where wall switches activated standard lamps and table lamps around a room, I asked an electrician how this was done and he explained and I have wired my lounge in the last four of my houses this way, it always gets a comment and frankly very easy to do.

The same principle applies to fitting a flex into a square pin plug.
