2040 x 926 Internal Doors

It’s becoming a problem finding larger doors. 
 

It also doesn’t help that we are looking for something that doesn’t cost the earth, and also is different from the standard styles. 

Any suggestions? We’ve tried pretty much every website we can find so a bit door blind now!

I assume internal doors are what you are after.

 

Is the main issue that no one does the size, or that everyone does the size and no one does a style you find attractive?

 

Can you give an indication of what you are looking for eg is it an unusual wood or unusual style or different material or colour etc?

 

Does there have to be a Firedoor version?

 

Is there an approx max budget - eg £50, 100 or 250 per door?

 

All that info would help. Sorry for the questions, but I don't want to pepper you with suggestions that are wrong for reasons we can know first.

We used XL Joinery doors at 2040 by 826.  They certainly do some in 2040 by 926.

 

I found it was the 2040 height that ruled out a lot of doors.  I had not noticed early enough that the builder when making the frame, made all the door openings for 2040 doors.  I might have reduced that height if I had known how it would limit the choice (and cost) of the doors.

Yes, internal doors. The problem we are finding is the width. We have 8 doors at 926 and a load of others between 526/626/726 and 826. 
 

Cost is a major factor. We got a quote from a specialist door company at over £25k for the doors, frames and ironmongery. Totally out of the question!
 

We are undecided on whether to go for oak finish or painted. We have a lot of heavy and dark American furniture so we have designed the house to be very light and spacious to accommodate it. White might be better but the oak is lovely. Bit of a quandary. 
 

Don’t really want to go down the route of the doors with vertical grooves as they seem to be in every new build. There’s nothing wrong with them. Just a bit ‘ordinary’. 
 

Really like flush doors with some character. Either with visible planks or even horizontal metal strips. Trouble is I have an expense taste with a small budget, so I know we need to compromise. We have a stunning house that’s come in over budget so we (I) have to be sensible. 
 

So it’s a case of size, price, style really.

Our doors were originally higher than 2040 and much, much wider!! Had to rein in our architect and reduce all the sizes and they’re still very big. Ugh!

If you notice before you plasterboard your walls, you can reduce the size of a door opening in a timber frame.

 

Unfortunately I did not think to take that measurement until the plasterboard was on and had been plastered and painted.......

Yes, we might have to bring some in, especially the huge bifold dining room doors. They’d have to be custom made. 
 

As for the 926s, we could bring them in to 826 ... and then we could get the same doors as you! Just really don’t want to go down the Howdens style route if we can help it (although my husband likes them).

Todd Doors have a whole page here at that bigger size with quite a few between £100 and £200, and more at 826, but perhaps you have seen these.

Don't get too enthusiastic until you have talked to them and checked the quantity as it is quite possible that for certain ones they only have a few.

TBF here, we are all running through door suppliers we have found to be OK.

My niece used to do that when you took her for lunch.

 

She sort of had an internal spreadsheet that would absorb the entire menu in 15 seconds, do a sort by price, and choose the one at the top without any visible action ?.

Metric sizes are sometimes more expensive or harder to come by than imperial. Would it be possible to swap your doors and linings for 915x1982 then might be more avaiabliltiy

This is our forever home so building with the view of accessibility with wheelchairs/all on one level etc. The architect originally made the doors 2090 tall with well over a metre width. We’ve reigned them in already, and there are doors out there 2040 x 926 ... it’s just a case of finding the ones we like and not costing the earth.

What is your budget?  Are you looking for a fully finished doorset, or just doors?

 

I have had a place with lots of 926 doors and they will work well for wheelchair access.  It is apparently best if there is a nib of wall at least 200mm on the handle side of the door.

im sure you wouldn't be scraping your knuckles on 915! I only mean to swap the current 826 for 838, thats actually an improvement in width

 we have ordered but not yet got delivered doors form TEV doors. They are the Porta doors. Lots of modern styles and mainly door sets . Incredibly helpful team and  make good suggestions for what you could

Trying to get everything down as much as possible, so currently looking at less than £200 per door where possible. Don't really want to reduce the sizes if we can help it.

 We have been really bad at blogging  recently as just so much to do. It was easier when the groundworks were on and we were not involved  I was hoping to this week as the scaffolding is finally down| on Tuesday. We wil try a quick summary and then go back and put more details in

 The  door sets are more than - all ours are fd 30  that but you need to think about the  ease of fitting . I think we wil do our  own but if we needed to hang the doors  we would need to pay someone to do it

You will struggle at that level for a decent door in that size. You’ll also need custom linings as they are non standard - budget £60-80 for a joiner made lining to fit those gaps.
