colin7777 Posted November 5, 2019 Posted November 5, 2019 We have to use natural slate as part of agreed planning condition, it will be a timber frame one and three quarter height building. The roof pitch is 30 degrees and the area to be tiled is 12 metres by 6 metres. Noticed that slate prices vary drastically and also there are many sizes of slates available. Looking for recommendations as to tiles to use, best size of tiles and hopefully at a reasonable price. Welcome comments as to if you only get what you pay for and what problems do the low price slates tiles come with. Are the online 'warehouse' type supplier anygood or can people recommend suppliers. Thanks Colin

Mr Punter Posted November 5, 2019 Posted November 5, 2019 Another vote for Spanish. Siga and SSL are 2 of the brands I know.

Dan F Posted November 5, 2019 Posted November 5, 2019 These say snowdonia approved: https://www.cembrit.co.uk/roofing/slates/glendyne
colin7777 Posted November 5, 2019 Author Posted November 5, 2019 Thanks for the replies, it does have to be natural slate, looks like Spanish wins the vote, would welcome feedback as to best size to use and also what price I should pay for natural slate tile. Thanks Colin
Thedreamer Posted November 5, 2019 Posted November 5, 2019 @colin7777We put CUPA heavies 3 slates on the roof. Just looked at the invoice £1.05 + VAT per slate. 40 x 25 cm and the slate itself is quite thick. A few close up photos on this blog entry. Where are you based?
DaveH Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 Another vote for a decent quality Spanish slate here. I can't remember which one exactly without digging out the paperwork but I sourced a slate from SSQ through a local roofing merchant Rinus. SSQ sent some samples out and the rep came to see me and once they had calculated quantities I ordered through Rinus.
joe90 Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 Our builder used Spanish slate and it looks fab, slight green tint like Lakeland slate.
makie Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 Cupa H3's are the best Spanish ones you can get. Apart from that Scottish slate is the best
