Fixing Sole Plate to Concrete Blockwork Foundation

Hi

Looking for some advice on best bolts/screws/anchors to fix sole plate to blockwork.  What is the industry standard used these days.  Thanks in advance of any advice

I use these for most concrete fixings I do, 5 (or was it 5.5mm) SDS bit down through and then screw them in.  Recommend a nice long 300mm SDS bit.

Is this for a DIY build or are you writing a spec ..? I would let the TF contractor decide otherwise.

Hi  Thanks for info on concrete fixings.  This is for a self build.  I was wanting to fix the soleplate down before the kit arrives to save some time on the delivery day.

Forgot to ask what the recommended distance between fixes was, assume 600mm

MBC used something like these https://www.orbitalfasteners.co.uk/products/8mm-x-110-express-anchor-steel-zinc-plated  as you just need to hold the timber against the concrete, drill through both and hammer this home - there is no additional fixing and the timber goes where it is supposed to - quite quick way of working.

 

They're pretty sturdy as I saw when one needed to be removed - did not come out of the concrete.

We just went every 600-1000mm, straightening as you go.  Just have someone at the end looking down the length.

Express nails are ok, but more light duty, more suited for battening etc. and aren't as easy to remove should you need to reposition.

We had Hilti impact anchors at 600mm (offset) centres.

our TF Co. used a combination of Express anchors and Hilti nails.

Our TF company used threaded rod fixed into the concrete with resin.

Surely those thundrrbolts in the link above aren't up to the job of anchoring a sole plate?

Expanding sleeve anchors as long as you are not getting close to the edge of the blocks, otherwise chemical anchors (threaded rod set into resin) as these bond tightly to the concrete without causing spalling or cracking etc.
