  1. I get the principle, its the actual numbers i need to get my head around. For example if my living room is 42 sq/m, its a 15 metre run and i use 90mm round duct. will i achieve a quiet sytem at the required flow rate. For this size room i actually expect that i will need either a double run or, more likely, 2 single runs to opposite corners of the room.
  2. Hi Nick Mechanical bends. I want to use the Ubink air excellent system.
  3. Thats Hampstead. About as insane as it gets i think
  4. Thanks Nick. Its rationel that i am trying to find an alternative to. so that wont work.
  5. I am having a little difficulty understanding the pressure drop/ airspeed ratio thing. If i am correct the magic number is less than 2 metres/second to achieve a quiet outlet. So, what should i expect per 15 metre run of 90mm with , say, 2 90 degree bends ?
  6. My planned Potton is a 200 sq/m house. I think the longest duct run will be from the loft space to the far end of the living room. This will be 15 metres as best as i can estimate it. A previous quote and design ( from a company i dont intend to use) said i need a house total of 60 litres/second. Will a single 90mm duct be sufficient? If its good for the living room run then it should be good for everything else.
  7. Has anyone any user info on their new range. Are they badge engineering something else?
  8. Put a resistor across the terminals and see if the pump fires up?
  9. We appear to have slightly hijacked Sarah's post
  10. Except that this is not my experience with them. As i said earlier. They have offered a phase 2 subsequent to the frame erection ( phase 1). Within this phase 2 quote they have specified Redland rosemary clay tiles and were not keen on me looking for an alternative. Now, it is true that i can find my own contractor to take the project to weathertight. This would give me all the freedom i want to choose. But, i like the idea of Potton doing both phase 1 and 2. Just wish they were a little more flexible. Its a call i need to make soon as to which way i go
  11. They do offer a choice of glazing. From a list of 2 in our case, Rationel and a company in Suffolk. We have gone with Rationel Alu clad. They used to favour Bereco solid wood. Perhaps we dont look like we can afford those! The people they specify are themselves. Who that actually turns out to be is unknown at the moment.
  12. Our design is weatherboard clad on the Gable ends and the dormers, Cedral rather than timber. Brick elsewhere.
  13. Potton are doing our house. They are currently proposing a 2 stage offering. # Erect frame # Weathertight. They have specified the glazing and roof tiles. They will also now optionally do the foundations if you ask. Apparently they have issues with accuracy when done by others
  14. Is the <36 sq/m the reason for 'single garage and open cart lodge' designs? I guess the cart lodge bit is not counted.
  15. As it happens i had already probably discounted the Grant after reading opinions on here of their relative lack of sophistication.
  16. PM sent. Apologies Nick, i would not expect you to quote on a public forum. Thats how it looked though i guess. I really am struggling to accept £8k and the more vague their responses the more distrustful i get.
  17. Nick what would you regard as a reasonable figure? Taking on board how little the installation company actually expect to have to do for their £8k in my case. Bearing in mind i am in the home counties so expect a little bit of a premium. Having said that we dont all drive bentleys in Hertfordshire.
  18. Forgive me but i thought this was a requirement of the building control in some way, please explain.
  19. I have had a bit of a back and forth e mail conversation with the potential installer. They wont budge on their price and dont want to detail all of the little extra's that are required to install. Therefore they stick by their £8k installation. Still looks to me( ignorant of plumbing intricacies) like a lot of money to drop a pump onto the plinth, connect it and commission/instruct me on its best use.
  20. The second phase, to go from frame erected ( phase one) to weathertight. Its the second phase that is £65k.
  21. Apologies, i dont understand this. Oh and the grant scheme is deffo still active
