  1. I dont suppose it is. My job involves marking the homework of people that work in data centres. Change control and standards compliance kind of thing. But where to look and what to look for with regard to this airtightness thing is a new skill. Important to get it right as well because its my house after all.
  2. Oh, on airtightness specifically or understanding the construction drawings? Interested in this
  3. Really curious to know just how detailed this kind of thing can get. I would like to do a good job of this when ( if) my planning gets granted and the house can start. Not having any previous experience on site i worry that i will have no idea what to look for
  4. Thanks dude. Your help is duly noted. I mentioned the location of the plot for a reason.
  5. Yes dude, there have been a few alterations to windows. The TF company made some choices of their own regarding where and what size we might want windows. There may well be a few more minor alterations as well. Your number is very precise. I guess you noticed the 'plinth' bricks. So if i can get bricks delivered kerb side Inc Vat @ £1.20 each and then that much again for the fit i should have a reasonable price guide for this part of the job. By the way there is a huge inglenook as well.
  6. Hi Canski, Yes herringbone. The one on the far right has been deleted. The kind of costings i am looking for are for the quantities of bricks and price to lay them. Not for supply, unless that turns out to be the right way to go.
  7. Are you a brickie? does my guess at 7500 bricks seem reasonable looking at my drawings?
  8. As the potential buyer of a timber frame house in the very near future( if we get our planning permission) i am very interested to hear who your kit company is. My frame company have made a similar statement about checking the quality of the set out of the slab. Perfectly reasonable in the circumstances. I would be worried about penalties if there is a delay in them being able to bolt their frame down. In fairness to my lot they have been on site and they are very responsive. Nothing for them to see on site yet as its just an orchard at the moment but they did visit when i asked them to.
  9. I am beginning to gather info on my potential house build. I believe i need about 7500 bricks. Bear in mind that i dont know what i am doing though. As a guide to quantities the house is 200 sq M and 14.5 metres wide. Location is north Hertfordshire.
  10. Good morning, welcome. Do you mean 236 SQ M plot or that you have a plot on which to build a 236 SQ M house?
  11. On reflection i think i will have a double thickness stud wall with a small gap between. It will drop down through the first floor landing between one of the bedrooms. Should only add 180mm to the thickness of that wall.
  12. I get the idea of a cupboard of some kind to hide the drop. Cannot see how a hole saw would help. Ducting is 90mm and i guess the framing of the stud wall is 100mm as the most. Sort of destroys the stud frame from what i cant imagine
  13. Good morning guys. I have been playing with a design of ducting. The Plenums will probably been in the loft and i intend to use 90mm Ubink. There should be space in the stud walling, not certain of that bit but thats another question. Assuming i can drop vertically within the studwork how do i deal with the top and bottom stud work horizontals? Have i even explained that well? The intermediate floor is made of P10 253mm Posi joists so that should be ok. Thanks in advance as always
  14. Thats good to know, thank you
  15. Well so far it appears they are not available in GB. Not as an officially imported brand anyway
  16. I think i know what the answer will be but if a ask one of the companies quoting if its net of the grant or not.
  17. Has anyone been surprised or caught out by this? If you have been in the position of getting quotes for an ASHP install by professionals do/did you expect the figures were inclusive or exclusive of the £5k grant. The reason being, i was talking to the .gov.uk helpline this morning and this was pointed out to me. That the grant goes to the installer
  18. Blimey that would be brave. It would look perfect on an old Bentley
  19. Ooh this could be fun. And useful. My Potential house builder has quoted for Rationel forma plus alu clad. We, me and the boss, get closest to an agreement about colour with RAL 7003 Moss green. I have said i wont commit until i can see a whole window in the flesh so to speak. The thing is Rationel do not appear to have a large showroom with all colours on show. If they cannot point me at a real example i dont think i can buy them. Cos' once bought they are staying for a long time.
  20. Was it you post in the other thread that alerted us to this model? Cannot wait to hear what you think of it once its up and running. No response from my enquiry to them at lunch time today. Lets see what they say about availability
  21. Agree, especially as my current live quote, see other thread, is £11500 + VAT + Installation for a Nibe 2040 and a 400 litre cylinder and not much else. I am not paying that.
  22. After becoming aware of this product in a recent post in this folder i am considering using one. I have e mailed the company in Italy today asking about availability in the U.K If they are indeed a Viessmann product to all intents and purposes then i cannot think of a reason not to consider one.
  23. Appleby 2-Gang Dry Lining Knockout Box 35mm | Back Boxes | Screwfix.com ?
  24. Thanks for your interest. The Window supplier was provided by the house build company. They are local to each other and used to working together. From this i guess they know what each other is doing and that it therefore works. Its possible i have mis understood something but i am taking the vertical sizes directly from their quote.
  25. Yes these are the heights. The glazing sizes are written seperately on the quote and these are slightly bigger so i take tyhem to be the overall dimension.
