Just had a look at the site. They are part of the same group that owns Rationel/Velfac. I need to investigate showroom options nearer to hertfordshire. Thanks by th way, this is interesting.
-
Thanks Guys I am happy with the actual glazing that Rationel have quoted for but the boss has picked up a few details she does not like much. The handles for example. They dont appear to have much of a choice of these. Dont like any of their doors either very much. I dont really want to have a different supplier of the external doors to the windows but might have to do so. We much prefer the Bereco doors which is why i looked again at them yesterday.
-
Does anyone know where Bereco sit on the quality/price spectrum? I have a feeling they sit above Rationel. My proposed Potton build has quoted for Rationel but there are a couple of details that the boss does not like. Thanks in advance guys. I will be phoning them soonest.

None of the 4 companies that i have contacted so far, as far as i know, have done diddly. They appear to be relying on the fact that the planning dept say there should be a survey. I have to say that the village is known to have produced a few bits of 'who knows what' that are of interest to archeaology so in fairness its not totally out of the blue. From my point of view if the archeaology dept of the county cannot respond to a request for specifics from the planning dept in their own county then they forfeit the right to induce a £5k plus job on me.
-
The planning dept recieved no response from Herts Archeaology after i put my application in. In my world if a department does not respond to a request for information then they have no interest and their input is struck from the requirement. Therefore removing any archeaological interest from the planning application. Gues what, thats not how it went. Jilly, as i said i have a long list and have e mailed 4 of them. They are responsive and keen to quote for a survey. But they dont know what level of survey to conduct and therefore quote for. I am beginning to think that my super quick planning grant ( 10 weeks only) will now be held up by an unresponsive department of the state machinery.
-
A condition on our grant of permission is an Archeaological survey. I knew this was coming and have recently e mailed 4 companies that might do the work. They have asked me what kind of survey, i believed they would tell me this so i am at a loss. Have not yet had a response from the planning dept as to what they mean in detail.

Got full planning granted today !!!

You might notice some inconsistencies between the elevations, we have been playing with combinations of Render, cedral cladding in a choice of 2 colours and brick. Will put the internal up later although they are here somewhere from when i was asking about MVHR options. -

Thank you. So long as my figures still stack up its over to Potton Homes to build me a house now. Well, apart from the archeaology survey i still need -
Hi Nick Agree no to Rega-vent. Their unit looks like rubbish when you see inside it. I had the joy of seeing one of their part finished installs recently as well. I could not commit to spending £7k on that. So i used that figure and priced up a kit of parts for a Brink 400 and 90mm ducting. That appears to come to about £5k. This would leave me £2k to get it commissioned and signed off and i would be no worse off financially but would have a top notch install.
-
The 60l/s figure comes from the quote i have from Regavent. also .3 x area which is 200 m3 in my case. As per another post i raised, with no other knowledge to base my figures on i have been using the 60 l/s. I have read such good things about the Brink/Ubink 400 that i would be amazed if it were not suitable and your comments bear that out.
-
I believed the Ubbink 400 was a good choice for my prospective house design ( planning granted today !). 200 sq/m requiring 60 l/s, apparently. From the manual the 5 speed settings give the following # 0 = 50 m3/hr, 14 l/s # 1 = 100 m3/hr, 28 l/s # 2 =200 m3/hr, 55.5 l/s # 3 =300 m3/hr, 83 l/s #max = 400m3/hr, 111 '/s I have no way of knowing if the 5 speed settings are equally spaced from 0 to full. So, my 60 l/s would need speed set at 2. Does this look like it will be operating in a quiet enough part of its range to be a wise choice after all? Also, how does the boost requirement of 4 ACH fit into this model As always guys, wise words gratefully taken on board

That's sort of why i have been asking loads of questions on here about prices i have been given for ASHP, UFH and MVHR. Some suppliers are taking the P!ss Have not seen a bargain yet to jump on -
Now the expensive bit begins. 10 weeks from submission is pretty good i think.

Help - UFH downstairs and radiators upstairs?
Post and beam replied to Ruben07's topic in Underfloor Heating
Thanks Guys, as i said this is what Potton told me as well. Am i wrong in my belief that build regs require heating to all rooms? If true it is in conflict with this idea. -
A potential concern is the long term weather protection of the circuitry under the covers. Its not sealed from what i can see. I'm sure no rain can get in but condensation is a worry. Would love to hear from anyone that has had one for any length of time.

Help - UFH downstairs and radiators upstairs?
Post and beam replied to Ruben07's topic in Underfloor Heating
I am in a similar boat, New build SIPS house hopefully starting soon. The quotes for UFH upstairs are even more eye watering than for downstairs. I am content that the need for any heating upsatirs will be minimal at most. In fact the TF company ( Potton homes) believe you dont need any heating upsatirs at all, except perhaps heated towel radiators in the bathrooms ' that'll be plenty' they say. However, i understand building regs say that there must be heating upstiars. So, we are going with radiators in the bedrooms but very small. A token jesture almost. -
If i take the 60l/s as a valid whole house figure, is it usual practice to do the following? With no other previous knowledge to go on i have broken out the volumes of the rooms that require supply and taken their % of the total. Then used that to divide the 60 l/s into per room supply rates. So, for example my living room is 42 sq/m which is 38% of the total. 38% of 60 l/s is 22.8. From this ( if correct) i will need 3 x 90mm to keep just below the 2 m/s velocity. Please critique away guys.

Are these costs realistic for a 500m2 house
Post and beam replied to miike's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
A perfect example of location, location, location. I dont see it as a £7m house but knowing the area its not a suprise
