  1. 500 amps, 500 degrees F and cannot remember the pressures. Went to see with only one of the two functional once. The second one fell over with two weeks of the Patrol left. That was fun.
  2. And drinking water as it happens. Dumped the Hydrogen to sea
  3. When i was a submariner in a previous life it was the 'Lysers' that gave everyone the frighteners. And thats with a Nuclear reactor next door. They used very high current, very high temperatures and very high pressures. They were not the most reliable devices you could imagine. Think the French lost at least one boat to a failure of such a thing. Just sayin....
  4. I thought i read about this a few weeks ago. Some of the houses are indeed already occupied
  5. Not a universally agreed experience then.
  6. A question to those that know, When i get quotes for boarding out my house( actively looking by the way) is it the same guys that plaster/skim them? I just need to know how many line items to cost for on my budget spreadsheet. Thanks in advance guys as always
  7. I was seduced by the ' from £250' headline banner on the ad in Build it. When i actually went on the site just now the price is £560+vat for a 200 square metre house. So i think i will give them a miss and investigate you builders merchant option.
  8. Good afternoon guys As per the title really, i am thinking of using one of these companies. As a bit of a sanity check on my estimates. Is there a standout 'go to' company, are they all a much of a muchness or a total waste of time? All opinions gratefully receieved as always Personal recommendations of course are great
  9. Thanks Joe90, Thats exactly the thing i just went and bought. Once you know what the required part is called its easy. who knew. Job already done. Thanks guys
  10. Hi Guys I need to drill into masonary in a tight space( replace a WC cistern thats built in as it happens) so i bought the adaptor you see below. DEWALT Right Angle Drill Adaptor, 2-in-1 Attachment (DWAMRAFT) A normal round drill bit is not suitable for this. So my question is... have a screwed up or is there a drill bit that is suitable for this quick grip attachment? Thanks in advance keith
  11. I have had conversations with my proposed groundworker that included re routing an existing foul drain that runs across my plot under my house footprint. So i regard the subject as 'discussed on site. Same conversation with the TF company contracts manager and the initial salesman. Also both while on site. As a novice to this house building lark i dont know what else i should have done to set expectations.
  12. For those that have been through this process, i have a quote for my groundworks that makes no mention of the drainage away to the sewer. Is it usual to include drainage or to have it as a separate quote please?
  13. Apologies, i meant they know what order trades should be on site. I have no pre conceptions with regard to airtightness
  14. Thanks dude Couple of questions. I dont understand 'pre plaster inspection'. # We are having MVHR, which i intend to run the trunking for. I also expect to do much of the Airtightness tape work as well but dont want to get in the way of the first fix guys. Whats the convention here? # UFH & screed after the studwork and before any of the first fix i guess ? Also on the outside trades. Upper storey is weatherboard on the gable ends and dormers, Bricks to the lower floor with a large external chimney stack. Roof tiles will be done first of course and the glazing in. So if the brickies are next when does the guttering and the Soffits/barge boards get done. I suppose the Scaffolding stays in place after the brickies ( perhaps with a drop change) so that the weatherboarding can get done. The trades all know the form of course but if i have to schedule them i want to understand the conventions and best way to do this.
  15. I thought i had a builder lined up to take my house from Weathertight( Sips construction from Potton Homes) to completion but i may have missed their window. They are very busy which hopefully means they are good. So, if i now have to arrange trades on a one by one basis is there a preferred order. More importantly i guess, is there an order that would be a very bad idea? Thanks in advance keith
  16. I doubt that Tescon Vanna Tapes and the like are of the same order of crappy ness( technical term) as your average sellotape. They are rated at 100 years of adhesion. (No i dont know how they test that either but i do trust them) Apologies. Keyboard issue my end

  19. Agree, and i would be happy if my taping efforts are redundant. But once done i wont know either way. The size of the task is worth it to me.
  20. This is what i am expecting. My Potton home, if it ever happens,( sale chain has fallen through) will be Sips. I am happy to tape the joints but dont fancy purple painting the entire panel area.
  21. I suppose you would have to do a smoke test to see if any issues became apparent. Rather than theorise where improvements might be possible.
