  1. Fire extinguishers probably would not put out a battery fire. I would never have Batteries in my house and especially not in the loft. When i used to fly large drones i kept the batteries in ammo box's that i bought on Ebay. The only thing that i have seen that has a chance of at least smothering A LiPO battery fire is a large quantity of sand. Picture this. Battery is stored/charged in a bucket with a plastic sheet suspended above filled with sand. A fire melts the plastic sheet and the falling sand smothers the fire. No i know its not practical in this situation which is why i said i wont have them in the house. A friend with a new PV install has his battery outside bolted to the wall. is this not an option?

  4. Hi guys Looking for any info on what has been your response to this question and satisfying the condition. I have been asked to submit a plan of hard and soft landscaping with plant & shrub types, locations etc. Apart from a driveway from the road to the front of the house and garage i currently have no idea what plants or where they might go. Or any interest frankly. Finances will dictate along with the whim of the boss when she decides.

  6. Well that can only be good for SCOP. I sort of thought that 35 was the lowest running temp for heat pumps, mainly because nobody seems to mention a lower figure. And thanks by the way
  7. I thought 35 was the lowest temperature that is usually talked about when flow temperatures are discussed. A target to aim down towards for good efficiency but not always achievable in some houses.
  8. So the principle to be aware of with 'engaged water' is a minimum quantity and not a maximum ? I think it might be 64 Litres in my case. Another variable i am interested in is the return temperature. If my house is well insulated and the 150mm pipe centres and 35 degree flow temp work out well is there an issue with the water not losing enough heat ? I read somewhere that this can cause its own issues.
  9. I have changed the ACH to 1 and also the window U values becuase i have negotiated TG for the price of DG previously. Please critique this version for me and pick out anything that looks to be unrealistic. For example at cell D56. 14 represents a room temperature of 18 with an outside temp of 4 degrees C. Giving 1.59Kw requirement at Cell D65. And at H56, 28 represents 21 C room temp with an outside temp of -7 which i believe is the usual extreme used. This gives 2.87 at H65 Does this really mean that i only need a heat pump output of 3kw? Heat loss - Caxton j TG 31 Aug 23.xls
  10. JohnMo i would have thought the same. But i read the other Asbestos removal thread in this same section before i posted and i did not get that impression. That dates from just 2 years ago. I am not trying to circumvent the law, i am just trying to understand what is acceptable.
  11. Ok i just found the local dumps Asbestos policy, could not before. Looks like i do have to pay somebody to take it away. I had hoped i could bury it and encase it in concrete.
  12. Can i not do it any more then. Double bag and take it to the tip. Is this no longer allowed? As above, is it no longer legal to take it to the tip myself?
  13. I believe that the corrugated roof sheets on a little barn on my plot are probably asbestos of some flavour. The plot is 3/4 acre. Is it legal, and or sensible to bury the stuff 6 feet down in a far corner or does this make me the devil for even asking the question?
  14. Yes I know. But it was not me that said i could not do it. It was a heat pump installation company. Just goes to show that getting ' expert advice' from the industry cannot always be relied upon. As it happens a second opinion from another company,(In Ipswich) advocating a Vaillant R290 machine have said that as long as the window sill is at leat 1mm above the top of the pump then all is good.
  15. @richard5800 Richard joseph He has done me a revision with more realistic U values for windows. The thing is, i am not qualified to know whether his design and assumptions are optimal. A worthwhile exercise though.
  16. This was the issue in my case, not the 1 metre away requirement. We have 2 kitchen windows on the south side of the kitchen. They are about 3 metres apart. I was told that if i wanted to keep the ASHP between the windows i could move more towards one end and make the consequent closer window a non opening window.

  18. I have 2 zones on the ground floor, probably. The living room and then everything else. There will be no UFH upstairs I have not seen another example posted where the circuits are of equal length.
  19. Hi JohnMo. So this is 16.7 litres minute ? I have read various pieces on here about modulating the flow rates either up or down to suit the requirements at the time. Are you saying this is the maximum that a 6Kw heat pump would want to run at? In the design that i was provided with i see a list of flow rates per zone. And the fact that some zones provide more than 200% of the apparent need. In what way might this cause issues , is it even an issue and how do i learn what i need to know of this aspect. Thanks in advance
  20. What about the litres/min for the circuits? Is the idea to get as much flow as possible at the desired temp, or the minimum at desired temp. Can you have too high or too low a requirement?
  21. Hi dude, As i said before. When and if i get to the point where i think what has been provided is competent i will happily put his details up. Not sure at the moment whether i gave duff info or he has interpreted something wrongly.

  23. 150mm centres with a design flow of 35 degrees. Those 2 parameters came from me. Which exactly becuase i expect the house to be very well insulated. So, either i have given the guy duff info or he has made some assumption that i have missed. I am looking at either one zone only, or possibly 2 ( lounge and everything else)
  24. Good evening wise ones. I have tried an experiment and commissioned Someone via Fiverr to do me a UFH design & heat loss report. If the collective opinion is that this appears to be a competent piece of work, first off i will be very pleased and secondly i would be happy to share his details on here for any one else that feels the need.   25. I know what a lintel is, i dont know what parameters of one i need to care about to answer your question. Yet. I have elevations and floor plans, dont have the BC full 'buildable from' plans yet. Yes this would be up from DPC. There is a groundworks contract to get that far. Then phase 2 is TF erect. Phase 3 is weathertight. External cladding then follows, hence me starting to need figures for said cladding.
