  1. My study has all that plus all my guitar stuff. There’s 7 cables coming out of my modeller alone let alone all the other studio stuff. I have a better plan for the house build but I rather suspect I’ll be knee deep in cables all the same.
  2. That’s basically the legal position at the moment where the courts have said only a human can be granted a patent. My mousetrap question was more about the level of invention comparing the invention of something that’s just a better version of a thing that already exists versus a completely new unique something that didn’t exist before not the moral ethics of whether the AI gains the same level of recognition of a human. My understanding of AI, as it currently stands, is that the first scenario is where we are at the moment and the second scenario not quite yet. There is a third scenario where the AI identifies the problem itself and invents a solution for it with no human intervention at all. The final scenario is it subsequently manufacturers the thing it invented.
  3. I don’t really see what the problem the insurance companies are grappling with. While cars still have controls and require an operator to sit in the driver’s’ then the operator is responsible regardless if the car can be fully self-droving. Once you remove all the controls so that there is no operator and the car is truly self-driving then it’s the car maker (probably)
  4. There’s an interesting case going through the courts just now where Stephen Thaler has applied for two patents citing the AI as the sole inventor. The case has been thrown out on legal grounds as only a human can be the inventor. Independent analysis of the patents has also said that the AI wasn’t the sole inventor. If you gave a neural network the space and information to invent a better mousetrap based on all the mousetraps currently available, a definition of the problem, and all the information about mice it needed could it come up with a better mousetrap? However let’s say we lived in a mousetrapless world and gave the AI the same information would it invent the mousetrap?
  5. The ‘trick’ will be when it can take the knowledge it has and come up with unique insights to problems. To some extent it can already do some of this in specific situations. However, human ingenuity needs imagination and insight which is hard to replicate in AI.
  6. They prefer to spunk the profits on dividends and buying up their own shares.
  7. Yes for the labour but they could still claim the VAT back for the materials albeit the invoice would need to detail the labour and materials separately.
  8. Get a gardener to come in to keep on top of the worst of it.
  9. Why won’t they be able to claim it back? I’m
  10. I saw quite a neat solution that used a simple ‘sail’ attached at two points on the house and then to a metal pole a few metres into the garden. It required the sail to be manually fitted of course so not as convenient as an awning but was well done and different.
  11. We need a 2m-3m strip around the house to enable the kit erection so intend to build up the area that will be patio in readiness
  12. Like everything else it’s all in the prep. Get the base layer right and you won’t have wobbly tiles/slabs a few years down the line
  13. Sure but it’s not building a database live like the search engines. It’s why it’s knowledge is limited beyond 2021. Also it’s not returning a series of hits based on your search request. It’s trying to interpret what you ask it and reply with an answer it’s derived from your question based on the knowledge it has. It’s why you can prompt it with a few parameters and it’ll respond linking them together albeit it’s still a bit limited.
  14. It can also write very useable Python code to a prompt.
  15. Some of it will depend the type of houses already there. If there are lots of different styles and looks then there’s probably more flexibility on siting than if the other houses are all much the same. Fundamentally though planning policy should trump an in individual planner’s opinion and if it didn’t you’d have good grounds for appeal, otherwise there’s not much point in the policies.
  16. I’m not saying it’s exactly that system I’m saying it looked similar to that rather than the big tanks a borehole filtration system might use. I don’t know whether they carried out a water analysis and put a filtration system together to deal with that. They also had UV system from memory.
  17. That’s not quite it works though. It’s not connected to the internet ‘slurping it up’. It’s been fed hundreds of GB of text data to train the GPT-3 model. Because it has a deep understanding of English it can interpret complex natural language requests and return results in natural language that the model created.
  18. I only saw it briefly when he was showing me round but it’s this kind of system. https://www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/bmb-1000-hydra-whole-house-water-filtration-system?campaign=googlebase&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-MCQ4cPH_AIVCrTtCh2d3AncEAQYASABEgJ56fD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
  19. If they’ve asked for it they clearly think they need it. You could always ask them. Are they installing the rooflights? Our ceiling is vaulted and, so far, the only requirement is scaffolding and a telehandler.
  20. A neighbour has a hokey setup with a pump in the burn that goes through a filtration system for one of their bothies.
  21. Good stuff. As I said before, it’s generally better to go into one of the phone store branches if possible. The call centres are poor at resolving anything beyond the scripted stuff everyone phones about.
  22. Makes mental note to speak to our architect on Monday about actually adding a chair somewhere in the house.
  23. My ridge height is 4.2m with the eaves at 2.5. The original planning permission was 5.1m for the ridge height for a timber kit garage but I ditched that due to cost. Block build was also slightly dearer.
  24. My 10.5mx6m is £6k for all the groundworks for a similar steel garage/workshop. The SE did a foundation design for us but that was part of the overall SE cost for the house etc.
