Supporting 250kg steel beam on nothing?
Moonshine replied to knobblycats's topic in RSJs, Lintels & Steelwork
i prefer this option. get the concrete in so it has something to rest on, and a structure you can work off. get two genie lifts to get it into space nice and easy and chemical anchor in. Having 250kg up high and not supported properly is not a good thing. -
I am sure that the planning officer will feedback anything that hasn't already been considered by the objectors and your application. Maybe an email after the meeting to the planning officer saying something like 'Unfortunately i couldn't attend due to work commitments, please could you let me know the details of the meeting and any areas you may require further clarification on' It is a shame that you can't be there, but just remember that any objections will have to be a material planning concern to be considered. I know its a nervy time, but i think that the meeting will be just a bunch of hot wind if they want to complain. If not the planning officer should feedback to you about anything else that is a concern. We had 3-4 neighbours put in objections and it was granted as we did all we needed to do to satisfy planning.

how long will it be up there unsupported before the concrete goes off? a couple of genie lifts? Scaffold tower? it must be a meaty beam if its 54kg per linear metre Cheaper options are probably available with variable levels of safety -
Why doesn't it come under PD?

Are you thinking from a planning point of view or a practical one. If the site doesn't have planning then you can have a planning consultant to look at the feasibility of the site. if its practical you could have a chat with ground investigation companies to see if they have any experience in the local area and what there thought are on the likely ground conditions are and if they are any good. You could also speak to building control to see if they have any experience of builds in the local area. -

Well he posted in February, so hopefully he has found a way to progress, though not sure what came of the ICF issue, or can't comment on it if there are legal things going on. -

Weed grinders -
Yep, pretty much that.

That's not what it's designed for, this stuff is to go on top of the joist, with a floating floor
-
Expensive just use resilient bars

In a warm roof there is no issue, but by starting to put insulation under the vapour barrier between the joists your are creating a hybrid roof. Acoustic Insulation has thermal properties too. You can create a temperature differential in that cavity under the vapour barrier which can cause condensation if the upper surface gets cold enough. The key is to make sure that the thermal properties in the cavity aren't too high to limit that temp difference.

@NailBiter another member @BotusBuild is currently doing a build with Nudura near Saltash. He may have some recent insight as will others on the Forum -

i would document every thing with photo's in case you need to go to the local authority or HSE. -

But the OP should be protected against it, and nothing should be coming off an building site into a public area https://www.hse.gov.uk/construction/safetytopics/publicprotection.htm -

🤣it will be interesting to see it progress, i have just finished my build on a sloping site. It makes for some interesting challenges and try to minimise expensive solutions. -

How much material are you talking about? I would be going ape sh!t at the SM / builder boss at this, walls shouldn't collapse, scaffold netting should be considered. I would be keeping record of all the stuff coming across your side I don't know if this incident would be HSE notifiable.
