As the title says, locally there is about a £1 difference between treated and untreated C16 CLS (38 x 89mm £1.98/m vs £3.10/m) is it worth paying the extra? and is it necessary.

My house design is that all SVP's are on AAV's and not vented to the external. I met with my Architect today on site, and he wasn't sure if building control may ask for a vent. Can anyone clarify (with references) that a house foul system can be vented purely by AAV's and don't need external vents.

That is a very good point, @BartW i think that you should refuse this design as under CDM regs the design is not designing out risks, how do they expect heave protection to be suitably installed without getting into the trench. See this thread with some dicey imagery of a guy in a deep trench and heave protection.

not even for an inspection? ???

From the over sight to the ground level of the shed on the left was about 4m, it was a worrying time, but thankfully our earth it fantastic. I couldn't imagine digging 3m down with 600mm wide our how you would do it, surely the digger straddling the trench would cause cave ins?

those are deep, you must have crap ground!

Another outbuilding / garage floor detail question
Moonshine replied to Moonshine's topic in Garages & Workshops
Any assistance on this pls? -
I have got an order in with trade pipes for a load of pipe and connections. Let's see how it fairs.

Does anyone have any recommendations for online 110mm pipe and fittings suppliers? www.tradepipes.co.uk seem decent value, not sure about the products though

allows you to get the RHI payments

hold on a minute, i have got my wires crossed, if its just a standard lintel a 7N block will be fine. The catnic will need 150mm bearing at each end
-
you can also use a cut down 140mm concrete lintel, well my SE has told me i can.

Ouch, hopefully everyone is safe. Who was responsible for service locations, and is there a bill to foot?

DPC above *and* below insulation?
Moonshine replied to Tim2021's topic in General Construction Issues
sorry to say but i think that you are going to get cold floors, as the GSHP / ASHP relies on having well insulated houses -
I have a gut feeling that my brickies are dragging their heels because they are on day rates (yeah i know). The current stage is getting out the ground to DPC and i get its fiddly, but it seems there isn't much progress. The day rate was agreed as the below DPC work was hard to quantify. Now its getting to the stage where its standard block i am trying to get a gauge on what is reasonable of the number of blocks to be laid in a day. Based on one bricklayer, one laborer / bricklayer what would be reasonable amount of blocks to lay in a day based on machine mixing mortar and blocks already being set out?

sorry i should have been clearer, there is a SVP going into the inspection chamber, so it will be smelly
-
I am looking to use on inlet of an inspection chamber for surface water only, with roof drainage and threshold drains going into that inlet. The surface water will need traps on to keep the smells in, however is there one type of trap that i can fix directly to the in inspection chamber inlet so that i don't have to use traps at all other locations (no.3) as there is not a easy way to link all three locations with a surface trap (e.g. bottle trap)

DPC above *and* below insulation?

Where is your target of 0.2 coming from? 75mm may well achieve that target bit its not going to perform very well (i am putting 150mm in my floor) -
Annoying noise in my bedroom
Moonshine replied to MarcoP87's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
listening to it, could it be a bathroom extraction fan or similar, pump which has slight variation in speed due to wind or load? If the fan had an RPM of 2200, and had 9 blades it would come out with a blade pass frequency of 330 Hz. It would be interesting to know when and under what conditions the noise occurs. -

Moonshine replied to MarcoP87's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
what ever it is has very distinct harmonics ~334 HZ, ~670 Hz, and ~1050 Hz, but also a peak at ~165 Hz. -
Good shout, though table 11 of ADH says 450mm diameter for 1.2m deep and deeper, but with access restricted access as per @Dave Jones
