Im wanting to put a toilet in the bottom corner of the garden which in no way can be connected to the existing treatment plant (which is a fair distance and up hill). The toilet won’t get a huge amount of use. Cant help thinking they would be pretty easy to make your own? Anyone found/used any better solutions?
  4. Spoke to my tame sparky today. He’s recommending three core 16mm SWA plus the earth rod. I think I followed his technical description in that the earth would be connected at the supply end only to provide earth protection to the cable but then the rod for earthing at the load side.
  5. OK, so I went down first thing this morning and took another set of readings. In that time only two things had any demand on the Sunamps: 1 x 5 minute shower. Aprox 2 hours of the kitchen hot water loop (c12m of 15MM pipe all very well lagged) Unit 1: 4.5 Unit 2: 4 That's clearly double what my previous logs have shown for that level of usage. I think all I'm really doing is proving what we already know; the controller (and measurement) system is less than perfect!

  9. Thats not my experience at all. The units are always warm to the touch and when charged the supply pipework is roasting hot between the two units. Ive assumed that’s because the kitchen hot water circulator pump (which switches on when the kitchen light comes on) and other demand keeps things hot?
  10. Hi All So I’m busy planning the final aspects of the landscaping plan. I need to get power to the bottom of the plot for a garden room /gym. It’s not going in straight away but now is the only chance to get services down there due to other aspects of the landscaping. The run is 100m so my calcs show that I need 10mm SWA but I’d rather put 16mm in as there is a chance a hot tub might go in. Whats worrying me me is just how difficult is 16mm to handle manually? It will just get dumped on site on a pallet. Moving it on strops with the digger will be easy enough but there ain’t no way it’s going to roll off the drum Has anyone had the pleasure of manhandling 16mm SWA?

  12. Following on from the above I'm going to revert to keeping a detailed log of demand and recording daily meter readings. Since the above readings I've taken one shower and there has been no other demand save for the hot water loop to the kitchen which has run for a few hours. Its the only way I can get a sense of what is going on. Its OK though I've got nothing else better to do
  13. Sorry, I'm forever typing that the wrong way round and getting confused! My units are now set to 50% like yours. So much miss-information from Sunamp in the early stages has left my brain addled! I've edited my post.

So they both consumed electricity and stopped accepting charge after my bounce as follows: (readings from the meters) Unit 1: 3kwh Unit 2: 6kwh This suggests that Unit 1 was at 75% and Unit 2 at 50% (Mine are 12kwh units). They should be demanding charge at c50%. Whats really getting me to scratch my head is the units were cool, the pipework was cool, the plant room was cool. Clearly they were much more discharged than the figures would suggest. So are my units fully charging partially? There is no way of knowing as you've got no indication of level of charge. Yet again the world of Sunamp leaves you largely in the dark!
  15. You could actually lay the jablite straight over the top and then screw your floor down to the joists creating an EPS sandwich. The jabfloor stuff has an impressive compression strength.
  16. Jablite jabfloor? 50 or 70mm is relatively cheap. Available in 2400x1200 sheets for around £14 including VAT. its what I used to insulate my shed and workshop floors and is surprisingly effective.
  17. Alas no. The only difference I could see from this set to the last was the relay type. These controllers were delivered in December so there is a good chance yours will have later software.

  19. OK so thankfully that didn't take too long but REALLY? Can a technology really be this unreliable? My red indicators (illegally fitted of course!) were not lit and my power meters weren't flashing so I know neither of them were drawing power. So rather than simply "bounce" them lets see whats going on behind the panels. Board has power but no demand light on. Check permanent feeds and immersions feeds (basic test but couldn't be bothered to go and get my meter). All good. So clearly no demand for charge: So now power cylce the permanent supply (They are switched independently you can see the switches either side) and TADA they both start demanding charge. Of course there is no way of knowing when they stopped calling for charge. I'll get some idea once they've both fully charged as I can see how much power they consume.
  20. Just walked into my plant room and thought "its cool in here". Then realised both of my Sunamps are cool to the touch. RCBO's fine. So perhaps I wont go outside and do what I was intending to do and instead fault find these useless piles of shit gooo AGAIN. ??????????
  21. My build is featuring in one of the self build magazines at the end of the year provided I meet the deadline for finishing the house ? I was approached by the guy that does their photography (who I know via a work connection). I agreed on the basis that I had final comment on the editorial text which they were more than happy to agree to. I’ve already spoken to the journalist who’s writing the piece. They were really keen to cover the renewable aspects of the house but alas I’ve refused as I wasn’t prepared to sing the praises of a system which thanks to Sunamp has been nothing but a PITA. I agreed for one principal reason; if I decide to sell I’ll have a very nice piece of marketing collateral.

  24. OP, this is exactly my setup. Two 12kWh Sunamp powered only by grid electric which feeds my UFH and DHW. No buffers, no complicated stuff. The system still not properly used in anger (as I’ve not fully moved in) but it coped fine in the cold spell we had a while back. I’ve found that simply dumping a couple of hours of 30 degree heat into my ufh loops will pull the temp up by around 1-2 degrees. The plan will eventually be to divert excess solar gen in to the Sunamps (IF Sunamp ever come up with a solution that actually works! Unlike the solution I was sold by Sunamp ) and then top it up with off peak electric. in my passive standard house I factored (with @Nickfromwales significant help) that the savings on annual inspections and hardware costs meant that it was a good solution. However as I’ve said elsewhere I intend to add an ASHP to my setup 1) because my confidence in Sunamp as a product has been seriously dented 2) because I’d like the ability to cool my slab. If if I was starting again I would definitely have gone down the route of charging low temp Sunamps with an ASHP.
  25. Sharp blade is about your only option I would think. Or possibly sanding. Any cement cleaner is going to attack the plaster.
