I did when I built a wall to make more space on the landing in our old house. Had a access panel in case of problems.

We're in a electric only village and looked at ground & air source and due to our age we've decided against both. But, as for hot water, It would really depends on how you use your hot water. We have an electric shower so the only hot water we need it for hand washing & washing up. We're going to try a cheap 5l water heater. £80 and will cost about 10-20p a day to run. As for heating? again it depends on you really - some people need the whole house hot, we don't heat the bedrooms never have. But, yes that's still in the air but for now we are not installing radiators. We are going to have a 2k German electric rad in the dining/kitchen and a multi-fuel stove in the living room I think - may include the option to run rads off that, not worked the cost out yet.

Recent weather and whistling in shower

Finally a use for old mouse mats ? -
Had a company put a external door & frame in our extension and now right inside the door is a gap from the cavity. Is the anything special I should put in to fill this gap? to be honest I should have asked the builder but I didn't notice he hadn't filled it in at the time.

Well that's a new one.

Sorry dyslexic, The is a wooden box full of saw dust and shavings.
-
Been asking loads of people about this but the only two suggests seems very odd - I moved into this house just 3 months ago, it's about 100 and a bit years old country cottage. When I went into the loft I found, next to the chimney brest a crap about 2ft by 3ft filled with saw dust and shavings. What is it? I've not got rid of it just because I'm confused. Suggested so far; Something to attract woodworm away from the beams. Some kind of lighting conductor or dampener - The does seem to be a steel strap heading towards it.

Can't you just drop showing on the shower waste. A bit of soft plastic perhaps which can be just slid sideways when the shower is used. -
I've got a backdoor bender : help me mend it please.
Delicatedave replied to ToughButterCup's topic in Doors & Door Frames
Rip it out and replace it with a picture frame filled with glass (that's what I would do) or wood. Then on the outside screw a sheet of plastic glass over it. If fact over the whole door if you want. -
Ok, here's what I mean, bottom is the single socket which we use for the washing machine above it is the fused isolation switch.
-
I've added and changed sockets before in others houses. I've just never swapped a single socket for double that has fused isolation. The wiring should be ok but I'll double check where in fact this is coming. It's only temp as we want hot water for the sink. The whole kitchen will be ripped out this year, once the roof, the drainage, the insulation is done ?
-
I want to fit a water heater under the sink 240v My kitchen is rather limited for sockets but the washing machine next to the sink has a single fused socket. Can I just replace the single socket for a double? Wouldn't this just be the same as putting an extension lead in and using that?

I built a new house today...

This one is cleaver enough to clime up a fence and knock a bird feeder full of nuts of the end of the frame. First few times I thought it was the wind so I kept pushing it further on the pole but then I saw Boris do it. Oh yes I named him Boris. -

This one I have conversation with though the patio doors, he's a sweet little bugger more like a squirrel than a rat as he climbs the tree along the branches looking for the bird feeders, but I keep moving them ? Going have to trap him when I have time and take him away from the house. -

I have a question, the used to be hogs in our garden so I'm told - we've not long moved in - Bloke next door used to enjoy feeding the baby hogs as the came though the fence on to his lawn. So I would like to encourage them back if possible. The fear I have is rats, we live in open country but with a trainline running along the garden. We have at least one rat as I've seen it on the lawn and some day I could even have a conversation with the bugger at the back door. So would putting these boxes down be homes to the rats too? -
Our bathroom is almost exactly like your plan. We have an extractor connected to a plastic pipe that runs in the ceiling of the hall then turns right to find an outside wall.

Ban on Sale of Coal / Wet Wood
Delicatedave replied to Ferdinand's topic in Stoves, Fires & Fireplaces
I could never understand why wood burners were not hit as soon as they became popular. Mind you will it make any difference when China are still building coal power stations and commissioned 400 not so long ago. To be honest I think we'll all be dead as species long before we kill the planet with smoke. WW3 can't e far off now and we have the clown in charge around the world to kick that of any time now. -
What this bird protection net? never heard of a net, hopes not like the nets on our local Sainsbury as I'm forever going in there to get that a bird is tangled in it.

Is this one reason there is a permanent UK housing crisis...

It's difficult to argue that people were brainwashed with the very people who were brainwashed so I don't bother. History will out just has it has done with Thatcher. -

What when the mills were around, when the tin, lead & coal mines were around? No the regions that were wealthy in resources got raped and then ignored and they are still being ignored. Take this Fracking, where will the money go from the gas & oil shale ? not to the local people who live on the stuff and have to put up with the mess to get it out the ground. -

What always annoys me is the areas that made this country and gave the resources and wealth are the most deprived today. Why didn't they benefit like London?
