  1. You probably could! Can you make it all elaborate and fancy so SWMBO thinks it's mega and 'custom' !!?
  2. Oh ffs ! There aren’t any rimless ones ! It was a pig to get in because the access to move it was only available from inside the ensuite hence the positioning ! @Mr Punter gets the blame again ! . It was fine where it was before for a vent cover ! ???
  3. Yeah - I said that ? It won’t fit . So ! I might cheat . The ‘cap’ fits in the mvhr pipe with no over hang so I could use that with some holes drilled in SWMBO will never know ! . Or see if ‘rimless’ ones exist ....
  4. I’ll say you did it !
  5. I’m sure he will . I think every plasterer I’ve met moans . Even with a completely clear wall that just needs skimming . I think they only like easy jobs ...
  6. Ensuite done . Used twice as much plasterboard as I should and 1000% screws more than necessary . Do I or the plasterer fill gaps etc. tape joints ? . I assume I leave it now for a professional to sort . Before anyone says - the mvhr vent is on the piss ( but I can cut flush ) - though the vent cover will be an issue as it will be trying to sit on horizontal and angled ceiling ( blame @Mr Punter for making me move it )
  7. Sigh ! Removing screws ..... ? Nah !
  8. Yep it will be nas 2 a copy of essential files from nas 1
  9. My penny advice whether plasterboard/ timber - anything . You can never have too many screws in . If in doubt add more . If still not sure add some screws . Not confident yet ? - perhaps it needs more screws . @PeterW that’s exactly the type of professional curve I’d like !
  10. Was going to have 4 drives as shr - as it allows a failed drive to be replaced with any capacity drive . Drive 5 will just be nvr ; no raid . Any important video stuff I would copy off to the raid anyway . Of course for our younger viewers ... “A raid nas is not an alternative to a proper backup feature “ . I’ll probably copy valuable data off the raid to another raid drive ( cheap 1tb type thing )or usb drive . In turn will all copy off to a usb stick . So to lose everything would require 4 drives to fail in nas 1 . 2 drives to fail on nas 2 , usb drive to fail . Usb stick to fail ??
  11. I was going to take the diagonal higher then changed my mind ! Hmmmm ; think I’ll take the diagonal down and the horizontal . Put diagonal back up . Be easier to get the horizontal to be near flush with the diagonal then . Photo’s to follow of attempt 2 !
  12. Started on the ensuite ceiling . The ceilings angled where they meet . This ok ? ( apart from timber bit showing - will cut a bit to fit in there ) . Will a plasterer get over the ‘step’ ? Also I read that apparently he can curve the join between horizontal ceiling and angled ceiling . Assume this looks better ??
  13. Been trying to find a decent wall mount for the ipads . Avoided Bouncepad as way too expensive . Anyway after a few cheap punts I.e tacky ;went for it . ?? Ridiculously overpriced but it is quality . Trying to get power and Ethernet to it might be tricky . The arrangement I have using poe works but of course won’t fit in the case . Lightening female to Male extension ordered ....
  14. Don’t need any VM stuff yet . So Cctv recording and file sharing being its main function . Full report soon ?
  15. The thing is with this and everything else with building a house you can go round and round . Reading , asking questions , then reading more ! . Eventually you have to purchase . I read up on those nas reviews last night ; watched some videos - so at some point gotta put your money where your mouth is ! Will report back once setup
  16. All help appreciated Clicked the basket and went for the 1019+
  17. oops! Wrong piccy!!
  18. Or! Save some cash and just stick 5 RED hdd's in there and let the nvr do it's best!
  19. Certainly appreciate any input on which drives for nas/nvr parts - not capacity just recommendations. Been looking at broadband buyer for info/prices
  20. Think I'm leaning back to the 1019+ My plan was 4 drives for NAS allowing for upto 2 drives failling simultaneously. (so shr) 1 drive just for cctv (purple drive) so continually recoding ( so basic ). Is 1 drive likely to be a problem for 4/5 3MP ip camera's?
  21. You need to ssh into it . See how busy it is ( or is not ) . Presume you just have it on a timer plug to automatically reboot ?
  22. Ah @ProDave ! . A Mac will run and run ! I’ve had pc’s with camera software and even the software has the option to reboot the pc every 24 hours ! Not sure of your issue with raspberry pi . Mine at home has been on 12 months no issue - depends what’s on it . I use just max2play - it’s super solid for my audio needs . With my HA I might setup a reboot for the Mac every week or maybe shutdown all raspberry pi’s at night for example . Incidentally max2play gives you the option once you’ve set it up that no SD writes occur . So promptly powering off without shutting down isn’t an issue .
  23. Your routers on the entire time . That’s a dedicated cpu . Maybe you have a NAS on all the time . The consumption of a Mac running home automation software isn’t taxing ; so wattage is very low .
  24. Nope . It’s an old MacBook . Home automation software has to run on something permanently e.g dedicated box , pc - whatever ...
