  1. I was going to take the diagonal higher then changed my mind ! Hmmmm ; think I’ll take the diagonal down and the horizontal . Put diagonal back up . Be easier to get the horizontal to be near flush with the diagonal then . Photo’s to follow of attempt 2 !
  2. Started on the ensuite ceiling . The ceilings angled where they meet . This ok ? ( apart from timber bit showing - will cut a bit to fit in there ) . Will a plasterer get over the ‘step’ ? Also I read that apparently he can curve the join between horizontal ceiling and angled ceiling . Assume this looks better ??
  3. Been trying to find a decent wall mount for the ipads . Avoided Bouncepad as way too expensive . Anyway after a few cheap punts I.e tacky ;went for it . ?? Ridiculously overpriced but it is quality . Trying to get power and Ethernet to it might be tricky . The arrangement I have using poe works but of course won’t fit in the case . Lightening female to Male extension ordered ....
  4. Don’t need any VM stuff yet . So Cctv recording and file sharing being its main function . Full report soon ?
  5. The thing is with this and everything else with building a house you can go round and round . Reading , asking questions , then reading more ! . Eventually you have to purchase . I read up on those nas reviews last night ; watched some videos - so at some point gotta put your money where your mouth is ! Will report back once setup
  6. All help appreciated Clicked the basket and went for the 1019+
  7. oops! Wrong piccy!!
  8. Or! Save some cash and just stick 5 RED hdd's in there and let the nvr do it's best!
  9. Certainly appreciate any input on which drives for nas/nvr parts - not capacity just recommendations. Been looking at broadband buyer for info/prices
  10. Think I'm leaning back to the 1019+ My plan was 4 drives for NAS allowing for upto 2 drives failling simultaneously. (so shr) 1 drive just for cctv (purple drive) so continually recoding ( so basic ). Is 1 drive likely to be a problem for 4/5 3MP ip camera's?
  11. You need to ssh into it . See how busy it is ( or is not ) . Presume you just have it on a timer plug to automatically reboot ?
  12. Ah @ProDave ! . A Mac will run and run ! I’ve had pc’s with camera software and even the software has the option to reboot the pc every 24 hours ! Not sure of your issue with raspberry pi . Mine at home has been on 12 months no issue - depends what’s on it . I use just max2play - it’s super solid for my audio needs . With my HA I might setup a reboot for the Mac every week or maybe shutdown all raspberry pi’s at night for example . Incidentally max2play gives you the option once you’ve set it up that no SD writes occur . So promptly powering off without shutting down isn’t an issue .
  13. Your routers on the entire time . That’s a dedicated cpu . Maybe you have a NAS on all the time . The consumption of a Mac running home automation software isn’t taxing ; so wattage is very low .
  14. Nope . It’s an old MacBook . Home automation software has to run on something permanently e.g dedicated box , pc - whatever ...
  15. Back on the bridge. Installed a raspberry pi zero with amp hat Roughly . Wired to speaker .Also aeotec multi sensors . The low spec Mac aswell as running indigo home automation also runs the squeeze box server . Tested ! Sounds sweet !! ??
  16. Yeah I’m racist against windows based anything . So equally I’ve heard blue iris is really good ; but windows ...... ????
  17. Doesn’t make the choice easier though ?
  18. Hmmmmm DS1618+ seems better !!
  19. Hmmmm with 5 bays I guess 4 for NAS and 1 for nvr ? . As I said if nvr drive fails it’s not completely important ...
  20. Yeah the 1019+ seems like a decent spec ... Need to get my refund on the hikvision first ; but that Synology I think is my number 1 choice .
  21. I do have a Synology nas at home I.e not on my build . Never had an issue with it after 3 years . But more importantly it has 2 transferable Cctv licenses ! . So a small saving there . I think Raid for Cctv is largely pointless though you could do raid 1 just so in the event of a hdd failure you can just continue.
  22. @Thorfun actually why do you have 8 bay ? 4 bays for nas fair enough . Surely Cctv 2 bay would be sufficient? Don’t really care if 1 hdd goes down there . Just trying to keep costs down !
  23. Now that’s a bloody good point !! So with an 8 bay I could have 2 seperate raids on 4 disks one for nas , 1 for nvr ?
  24. Anyone got views on this ? Modern NAS has pretty meaty hardware so is up to the job . My concern is a dedicated NAS largely doing nothing most the time so hdd isn’t busy . A nvr though could be recording continually - with deliberately or through ‘motion’ events so hdd busy boy ! But then I think does that matter ? If I get a 4 bay nas as nvr with shr/ raid whatever - disk failure shouldn’t be an issue even multiple disks at the same time . Had that happen once on a netfear ( lol netgear ) nas ; 2 bay . Both drives failed within a week of each other !! Had the hikvision nvr as stated in another thread - perhaps it was faulty but junk . Looking at Synology 918+ or £££ DVA3219 ( I assume this would reduce number of motion recordings )

Flue Installed I asked him about The air bricks etc. He suggested one with a ‘float’ in - so it’s not just an open draft ..
