Yes ! it’s not been an issue . Only obvious limitation is if you do wish to speak to person at the door via the camera and app and are not home then a delay . For the money and size better than previous video doorbells imho .

It’s not the comms ( zigbee , z wave , Bluetooth ) - it’s a presence detector . Can detect upto 5 people ; their relative positions ! . Can also detect if you fall apparently ! . All wireless comms are a solution looking for a problem by the very nature of being wireless .

SWMBO has been ill this week so stuck at home with me 🫤😵‍💫🙄 As this prevents work on the house ( good excuse ) I’ve been fiddling with HA . Lots of issues and fun . I really did want a camera in the bathroom ( not for that ! ) . But was not allowed . But now …. https://www.aqara.com/eu/product/presence-sensor-fp2/ Arriving tomorrow ! . Though not a camera I can know how many people are in the bathroom and where they are ! . Plenty of opportunities here ! It should be noted that lots of the Chinese stuff does send cloud based date ( Tuya have been especially naughty ) . But a quick router block on port / tcp etc will stop that . Currently have 55 zigbee devices functioning relatively well ( I’d say 96% reliability… ) This type of technology will ultimately replace pir based sensors in a short time .

Even so a gate opener is easy I.e relay , power , button . Or ( of course ) integrate a similar thing into home assistant - for 60 quid a year can have easy remote access and Alexa support I.e Alexa open gate . Assuming @Russell griffiths wants as ‘simple’ a solution as possible though .

I’ve got 2 small walk on sky lights ( not the ones that have caused so much humour over the years ! ) only small 30cm square . Was going to install some kind of electric blind . This room will be an occasional bedroom ( mistress brings friends home ) so need to block out the light and “ viewing opportunities “ Electric blind looks like work and cost for a custom size . Yeah they are mains powered with battery backup . I wish ( knew ! ) I should have put a data cable through … No chance of data cables through now - still as long as it works , sparky will be moderately happy .

Finally got round to purchasing I was annoyed that the aico RF ones are rf as long as you buy the additional rf module . Slightly misleading in my opinion . As I need 5 smoke and 1 heat that bumps the price a lot . So went with safe-tech . £350 inc vat . To save more cash ( after 11 yrs I decided I need to budget ) . I’ll wire them all in - stick a plug on the end . Pair / test the lot . Sparky at a later date will roll his eyes but just has to do a connection in the CU .

No neighbors to annoy ?
