Bend in wall...how to fit wall plate?
Onoff replied to Robin2022's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
Isn't a battern a seabird? -
I've heard that's why kids fall over a lot, because their heads are disproportionate to their bodies.
-
No, through the 95mm gap! Or his beer bottle etc. So a child with a slightly larger head is acceptable, do you have a figure in mind?
-
What if he kicks his pint glass off onto the head of a small child below? 😂
-
The most solid fix would be near the top of the handrail I think? So do you need more tubes or not? I've also some 50mm dia stainless tube with a 6mm thick wall here but not much. Might look better?
-
I believe there's a maximum gap between handrail uprights if that's what you're planning. So a child can't fall through or get it's head stuck. You be best getting it right in case your BCO tugs you on it. Not sure if you need a kick board?

Things can get intense... -
I need to cut and shut these stainless brackets. They'll be welded together. The tile battens aren't that tall so I'll lose 10mm of the L bracket to bring it level with the tile: I'll then shorten this leg, or maybe the other one with the longer slot as there'll be a bit more meat on it: Is 5mm clearance enough, from the underside of the bracket to face of tile below, as shown by the packer: Cheers.

What thin insulation under wet underfloor heating?
Onoff replied to Mattsville's topic in Underfloor Heating
A sobering thought I always quote is @Jeremy Harris's calc that even with 300mm of EPS under his 100mm slab, he lost 8% of his heat through the floor. -
Would you want the posts near the wall further away than your ledger was for ease of future maintenance, getting a paint brush in there etc?
-
I'll cut and post you some more bits of stainless tube if you need.

The general populace won't is the issue. They like their comforts and by some trickery the new incumbent will sate their immediate needs. Forget tomorrow, live for today is the mentality. Look at my situation, acutely aware of the issues, benefits of energy efficiency etc but SWMBO so disinterested and unsupportive it's unreal. She's looking forward to a weekly £50 takeaway or buying wallpaper, paint etc for a wall that needs to come down or a carpet where the floor needs to come up. I'm thinking how that money would be better spent on the fabric of the house. -

Do I recall a story of a tin mine being shut down and the pumps switched off, allowing millions of pounds worth of infrastructure to be flooded & ruined. Then a couple weeks later, tin prices rising to the point it would have made it economic to have kept it running? -

You would like to think that skyrocketing energy prices have made people rush out en masse to insulate their homes, fit PV etc. I bet in reality the majority haven't. Partly its a double edged sword in that that money is needed to pay for the rise in energy costs. Coupled of course with general apathy that the government will do "something". LT will likely curb the increases and spread the payback burden into the future. She'll be popular for a bit. The majority of the country will go back to contended bliss, turn the thermostat up and let all the heat out when the Deliveroo driver turns up. I don't feel so silly I must admit about buying the 6kVA diesel genie now as an aside. As an aside, are the Chinese playing the long term energy game? We all fit and become reliant on PV then in 20 years time can't get panels, inverters, spares etc? Are we going to see lithium supplies used as a bargaining chip down the line. Look at the inroads China is making in South America and Africa. I'm rambling as usual! -

Does it take into account the costs upgrading the gas distribution network? Doesn't hydrogen have to be delivered at higher pressure than a lot of our infrastructure can cope with?
