  1. A clever spreadsheet. Avoid @pocster's tool.
  2. Line of sight? I had one fitted in my first, block built workshop. Working at the desk and the top of my head and hands were warm but my feet / legs were cold. Working at the bench the other side and my back was warm but hands (and still feet) were cold.
  3. Cable/pipe porn!
  4. Wait until we get a real bad one and we'll be cursing we sold all our snow ploughs!
  5. If you're going to dig the drive up anyway is it timer to look at UDH? 😂 Maybe a couple of lines of trace heating where the wheels sit!
  6. Don't tell me, you've got a plan?
  7. How are you going to ensure you don't half drive off and end up with one wheel in the oil change lane?
  8. With friends like you who needs enemas?
  9. Forgot to say I swapped out both USB sockets before testing in case they were sensitive to the Megger. Tbh I don't like them. Had a previous MK one cook a power bank I was charging. The replacement MK, well the USB side simply died. That's why I went for Click this time. Having all circuits on one RCD really is at the mercy of accumulative leakages across the circuits. Really must change mine.
  10. Just has some nuisance tripping here. Narrowed down to the upstairs ring main causing it. Old Crabtree C50 board with an upfront 30mA RCD covering all circuits so one out all out. Only thing I've done very recently is added another USB equipped double socket making two in total in that ring. 1st one was MK and this latest one was Click. Did all the end to end tests on the ring legs and all as expected. Then tested at all sockets between L&N then L&E. Got the expected nom (r1+r2) /4. (There's 2 double sockets I can't get to as behind full wardrobes). IR was interesting. At 500V I was getting circa 300 MOhm between all conductors. Holding the button in and this crept up to infinity. Maybe some damp I burnt off? For now I've left both USB sockets out and replaced with ordinary 2G socket outlets. Had no more issues. Did make me revisit getting an SBS all rcbo board. Got as far as using the online board builder and it's in my basket!
  11. I can print the formers, it's the ferrite slugs I can't find: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3422348 This alternative doesn't need the B9A valve holders: http://sm0vpo.altervista.org/3d/denco_sub_01.htm
  12. So tactile too, things of beauty imo. I recall, as a kid, reading how the English POWs in WW2 would craft them from old tin cans.
  13. Please do tell! That link was to do with 3D printing modern recreations of Denco coils. Having trouble finding suitable tuning slugs so I had the sudden brainwave to maybe print them! Now...if I could print Jackson variable capacitors I'd be a happy chap.
  14. Create a feature French drain between patio and house wall?
  15. Mods, please delete those first two posts, first one had the wrong link. Somehow I managed to post three times!
  16. Get some of these house plants that absorb moisture through their leaves: https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/lifestyle/four-houseplants-banish-mould-condensation-28375107
  17. https://www.nationalgrid.com/electricity-transmission/contact-us/who-is-my-distribution-network-operator#:~:text=Your distribution network operator (DNO,its voltage is too high.
  18. Old Bakelite fuses can be cracked and/or brittle. Pull them and they can disintegrate.
  19. Back when I was bothered I noted huge disparities between suppliers/DNOs around here. I had my own done as I wanted the tails upgraded. As I had an upfront RCD I used that as an isolator and fitted an REC2 myself afterwards. A supplier did my parents foc when they changed the meter but interestingly wouldn't replace the cloth tails??? Another said there was a £50 charge but in the end there was no charge.
  20. Different DNOs have different rules. Since electricity was de-nationalised it can be a bit of a free for all. The DNOs use subbies, good and bad. Many don't even use numbered seals with the pliers allocated to a particular authorised person. If "you"were to do it make sure you have no loads on the cu when you pull it. Be aware, in fact be very aware, that if you touch those metal bits inside the the now open fuse carrier there is nothing between that and the substation. Aka you're a goner. In fact I would remove the fuse from the carrier temporarily and push the carrier back in. I believe it was me that coined the practice as having been done by "Amelie The Seal Fairy". Hypothetically, what "you" want is: https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/WYREC2S.html? (A three phase version is available). + Probably some extra tails too.
  21. Met an old boy on site once who's lead welding was amazing. He was welding lead caps atop concrete plinths. I asked for his card and he just said "Ask for Ted the Lead, everyone knows me". Never found him again.
  22. I can't imagine he will be doing oil changes a)himself and b) on such a pristine drive. That's more my bag, on a rough, scalpings covered drive topped off with full 'o nails wood ash!
  23. Bow chicka wow wow...
