  1. Thinking about it I tried the bathroom cold upstairs and that's NOT on mains...was half asleep! Guess frozen in loft by tank. Can't remember if I tried the kitchen cold which is obviously mains. I'll get SWMBO to put upstairs and downstairs heat on constant. Guess last nights bath and showers emptied the cylinder of hot. Don't know if it's then filled back up with cold...it wouldn't have / won't if the mains up the garden is frozen. If the dowstairs loo fills after flushing then it means the mains coming in is OK, at least to there. It was pretty cold when I came out this morning. 9 miles took 50 minutes!
  2. Good shout. Thanks.
  3. Wow! Has it been that long? Awoke to find the mains water to the house frozen. Still, I should I guess have back filled the trench properly by now! It was 700mm deep but just has a covering of sand and whatever has fallen in since. I've kept meaning to lay the CCTV duct over the top before I filled it in...but haven't. Again, Just hoping when it thaws there's no lasting damage. Did half wonder, as the pipe is in a duct whether I could introduce some warm/hot air into it via maybe a vacuum cleaner set to blow? The issue might be at this stop cock just inboard of the boundary.....hot air gun on "gentle"? Or from the house end maybe, though that could be a problem as I forced down a 1m length of 22mm lagging where the MDPE comes up through the footings: We can always melt snow!
  4. I struggled to read that Tea Tree one to the the missus for laughing. She said "I don't know why you're laughing you haven't even got one!"
  5. I use that stuff and can confirm it's a bit tingly first off!
  6. See, even there you had to slip one in!
  7. I never thought a laydee would take @NSS's crown! I have a mental picture of that lass in the gents in the Full Monty!
  8. Yeah it does sting if you leave it on for too long doesn't it!
  9. Try as I may to lower the tone of the forum with the odd subtle double entendre, I'm never going to reach your depths!
  10. The immersion on my cylinder has never been connected to my knowledge. Certainly wasn't when we bought the place and I've never bothered. I was thinking maybe get something cylindrical like an old water butt or lidded compost bin that fits round the cylinder leaving a 4" gap all around. Split it into two halves vertically and make removable joins. Slip some nice, thick wall pipe insulation over the pipes coming off the cylinder. Then go mad with the expanding foam. If I spray the "former" with mould release it should come off.
  11. Redhead? The forensics suggest the collar and cuffs don't match...
  12. How did you go about adding secondary insulation? Just sheets of PIR or an exotic mould filled with expanding foam? I'd worry it might squash my old cylinder and cause it to leak.
  13. Believe me I knew that when I said it. Looking forward to seeing the footage!
  14. And have a drone following for some unforgettable footage!
  15. Even my bloddy NE to SW roof line's against me
  16. Not tonight Faye I'd rather play with a Tesla??? And I'm thought weird for taking my missus to Dungeness nuclear plant on honeymoon!
  17. A complete aside but what you would assume were originally decorative ponds at the Barbican Centre in London were originally cooling ponds for the ac.
  18. And how are you going to guard against that access tower not toppling off your flat roof?
  19. All it says for these is: BS EN 13141-1:2004 (Air leakage)
  20. You've all got every reason to be smug imo.
  21. Jeremy will be along shortly I'm sure...

  23. The solar controller should stop circulation in the glycol / brine loop if the ST panel temperature is lower than the tank temperature. In Summer (or any other time) the solar heated water rises. Any solar heated water is if you like pre heat to save on other fuel use.
