  1. The solder didn't seem to want to "go in". Using that Templars flux everyone's on about here. Going to clean and go over this joint again. This is the flux / solder combo I've always used in the past. Using this solder now but with the Templars flux:
  2. Playing around with a 500mm flexi pipe trying to envisage a rise and fall mechanism. Not looking promising as the pipe wants to twist as it rises. The worry is it would eventually loosen either the compression and to the copper or tap connector to the rainfall head.
  3. 1) H&S 2) Quite likely.....in your NEXT build!
  4. Cheers. A bit late as I've used wire wool! Btw, does this joint look "dry"? Cleaned pre fluxing with IPA.
  5. I must admit I always try and involve SWMBO. I went out earlier to Screwfix and was also tasked with getting bread, milk etc. I returned home to a thunderstorm with sheet lightning. I rushed in with the shopping and asked SWMBO to go out to the car and bring the copper pipe in.
  6. Pre soldering, then after wire wooling I always clean my copper with white spirit before fluxing. Is meths or even isopropyl alcohol (IPA) an acceptable alternative (better)?
  7. Tbh you could do that with a new blade in a hacksaw and gloves (for when you slip).
  8. Their 24" long ones for £10.99 should do it. Tbh longer handles mean less effort but of course are heavier to wield! I find most Aldi and Lidl stuff NOW is really quite good. You get the odd for still. Worst case you get a refund.
  9. Think so. All the bends up to now, with the new copper are fine.
  10. So with the shower going into the soil stack if the trap dries out you smell the brown stuff?
  11. Lovely clean lines on the roof etc. That triangular glass bit on the dormer I love.
  12. I'll email a chiller lad I know from site in the morning. He fits GSHPs. Maybe he'll know the name. Edit: I've had a beer, I meant ref your dosing pot thing!
  13. As I'm so low down it the bottom of the valley my aerial is up slope, about 50m from the house, on a pole with a mast head amp and is the biggest Band A Yagi aerialsandtv do. Pointed at Crystal Palace. Most neighbours gave up and went satellite but not me! I've made a couple of horizontally polarized, corner reflector antennas for neighbours too, to go on gable ends that work a treat.
  14. No, Dremel is far too small tbh. Freeads etc? So you not have pikeys up there? Just leave outside your gate and it'll go.
  15. Is it just me sees Stargate?
  16. Looks like A142? That's 200x200 squares, 6mm bars. Maybe the next time someone comes up they could give you a grinder lesson. Think Demi Moore / Patrick Swayze in Ghost! Start small with a 115mm grinder not a 9 or 12". Gloves and a face shield a must!!!
  17. That's enough for tonight. Something like this. The far lhs one is all soldered in. The lot to the right and to the rainfall head are "loose": The pass over tbh is half an inch off though it clears the cold feed fine. Should have come towards the rainfall head (by half inch): I'm actually going to redo the complete length to the rainfall head as that piece is one of the old "cat damaged" lengths. Our old she cat decided to pee on a box of 15mm copper I had laid along the bottom of a wall. The "green" wire wooled off OK but it's very pitted and even "lined". I could hear it "cracking" as I bent it. Not worth the risk, I'll redo. Has this crack in it too:
  18. Aerials, unless you live in a strong signal area are very definitely NOT much of a muchness. The sheds tend to sell "WB" models (wide band). They work best in the middle of the tv band but are not so good at the fringes of the band. Band specific work best over smaller, specific segments of the whole band. First stop for you is here: http://www.aerialsandtv.com As said above get the right one for your transmitter. You might already know what it is. You can usually take a stab by which way the rest are pointing. Find your transmitter which will give you your band the whether you're in a week / strong area. You might be "lucky" and a WB one will work fine.
  19. The rise and fall thing is going to have to come later if I haven't melted by then! Figured the rainfall head arm needed a bit more than half inch of pb to attach to so I folded up a bit of st/st kick plate: I just want to get water running through and the valves proved. The rainfall arm and head will need to come off again for plastering the ceiling anyway. For now I'll connect in copper but I've a 500mm braided flexi with an elbow coming to allow for the rise and fall thing later.
  20. Visible? It's having floor over it! + To be fair the loft is FULL of Hep2O and I've not seen any chewed yet but I'm intending gradually replacing it for peace of mind. Going soldered.
  21. Back on thread... Would I be wimping out if I used a copper push fit or compression elbow instead of soldering elbows on the ends of these pipes coming up thru the PIR? Left hand one is shown just assembled not soldered. The two on the right are closer together and closer to the joist: Thinking spray the wood with water from a plant sprayer then use the soldering mat. Safe? Got good light, an extiguisher and bfo back pack garden sprayer. Maybe lay a wet towel underneath too? It's the PIR I'm primarily worried about.
  22. Is there any possibility of running the ASHP pipes underground / in a hidden duct?
  23. This is a good piece on Kraftwerk: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2013/jan/27/kraftwerk-most-influential-electronic-band-tate
  24. Kraftwerk, now you're talking. Got loads on vinyl. On my bucket list to see them live. Amazing how many modern artists sample them. There's was a good article about Chris Martin from Coldplay approaching them to use Computer Love on "Talk". He said he was already starstruck and in awe of them plus dreading they would refuse permission.
  25. My youngest is very into Panic At The Disco. Surprisingly good.
