Bath Surround / Boxing In, and concealed pipework
Onoff replied to Onoff's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
Right or wrong, gaps filled with tile adhesive. First time I've ever used the powdered stuff. Too much water on the first mix so binned that. A bit left over when I got it right. Cement like and sticky at the same time! I let it go off and rubbed it with a block of wood. Turning my attention to the other walls and ceiling now. Off to find the joint scrim tape for the pb! -

I like my music with such bass that the dust can't stick! -

Well that worked: -
I can't help thinking how I was steered away from my exotic shower base mix and that seems to have turned out a treat...

See the pic ref soil/sand cover etc: https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Book/7.13.3.htm

Sand/dirt then bricks if you like at right angles to the run, widest side down. Better than nothing and it'll get rid of them doing something practical! Swa generally has a UV stabilizer in it.

Nope, she's resigned to "as and when" on that score, she just thinks I'll cock it up.

If you don't want to risk crushing your ducts around your cables then bed in sand or sifted soil. You can also lay old roof tiles etc over the top of that.

Missus wants her brother to do it rather than me!

Just bumping this. I need to get a hole(s) drilled in the ceiling to fit an MVHR vent pre plastering ideally. Thinking something like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Heat-Recovery-Unit-Grille-MVHR-Ventilation-Duct-Ceiling-Loft-Void-Air-Valve-4-5-/142386955614? 1) Do I need one or two vents per room as in an in & an out? 2) If two then is it two in the same room or the extract here and the intake in another room? 3) Knowing one or two then what dictates the size I need? Rom volume, use, lpm from Part F? 4) For now I might run it to just a simple ducted extractor in the loft and out the soffit with a view to expanding to MVHR later. ( @PeterW pointed me to a cheap unit a while back) I presume the duct sizes are compatible or that there are adapters? 5) On the sketch above I've not shown the body dryer that sits between the rainfall head (top left) and the downlight to the right. Is there a "good" position to aim for for the MVHR vent? Some general MVHR pointers would be appreciated! Cheers -
I have vacuumed the walls... As it's in the bathroom should the PVA be the (more expensive) waterproof version or just ordinary? 5:1?

I feel your pain! My retrofit included digging down and building back up the bathroom floor. The original dpc, shown blue on the inner brick leaf was nom level with the original ffl and there were some damp issues. I put a dpm about a meter up the wall then came down under the 100mm PIR. The solid grey underneath is 25mm EPS and the dpm is sandwiched between that and the pir. The corners what with all the folding were a pig as I had to stagger it over footings I'd have loved to have had a blank canvas to design this out from the start! Your design above, are there cold bridging issues at the base?

So all the gear and v.little idea! The wet room mitre, I assume I fill the joints with tile adhesive and let it go off. On the assumption I then reinforce the vertical internal corners with Aqual Panel "mesh": AND that I'm going to run tanking strip up, as well as tanking with tanking liquid... What order to I do in in? Tanking strip over the mesh? Cheers

Yeah, OK. -
There was something I read somewhere about board being better than multi or vice versa but only of late as in the formula / quality had changed maybe. Maybe on a plastering forum or something?
-
@nod what plaster should I go for, multi finish? Thinking this. https://www.wickes.co.uk/British-Gypsum-Thistle-Multi-Finish-Plaster---25kg/p/220056 Got a 3x3m ceiling to do and a section of wall nom 3x1.5m. Will one bag be enough. Cheers

I'm going to sacrifice a Starrett arbor and drill out the 1/4" hole up the centre to 9mm, (maybe 9.5). I can then slip the pilotless Starrett and arbor over the brass mixer spindles and cut the holes out larger and bang on centre. -

This Aqua Panel has been the biggest pita for a while. Learning curve too, you can't treat it like pb it's just not as flexible or forgiving. -

It's official I HATE Aqua Panel! Got to fill all the joints now. A few edges backed by PIR and no timber where I changed my mind and put the boards in horizontal rather than vertical etc. Some gaps too, bigger than the 3-5mm. I've tried to whack some EBT in at least. Confession time, spot the cock up? -

The panel around the last pocket and over the mixer was was easier than I thought. Bloody difficult to make holes in this Aqua Panel neat as even the sharpest Starrett catches the reinforcing fibres and leave the edges hairy. A 17mm box spanner fits these: And a 1" socket these. Might be 25mm but I haven't got one! -
The ones in my link are non-dimmable.....but CHEAP!

If it goes click, I'll buy it......

I think it was on here or the previous forum that I asked once of the brainiacs, whether there was a formula for how far off thread a topic had strayed. Seem to remember someone came up with one...
