  1. 42’ is building regs (as far as I remember) , however treads have “noses” (the overhang of tread over riser) making the treads a little longer. Use an online stair calculator, I did, takes all the stress out of calculations.
  2. But what about floor covering at both top and bottom of stairs?
  3. My stairs was out by a few mm and I just altered the angle by less than one degree which no one is going to notice or be able to measure 😎
  4. Is anyone going to notice 7mm? 🤔
  5. I would say yes, if they were required then the installing instructions would say so surely, as long as you follow the manufacturers guidelines then you are ok, if they are unclear demand they confirm how it should be installed.
  6. You asked for it…..now I finished the build I am Into classic car restoration (learning to spray currently)
  7. Can I enter the “messiest bench” competition? (You want to see the rest of my workshop 🤷‍♂️)
  8. I backfilled up to outlet with concrete as I have a high water table, topped off with gravel to stop flooding with heavy rain.
  9. All designed by a roofing company (in house S.E.).
  10. Sure, all top hung and fixed to a concrete lintel, compression seals all round .
  11. Can’t remember the actual product (specified by me but supplied by my builder), yes was used in my wall cavity. Roof Joist centres were 400mm so tightly fitted. cost was part of a fixed price fir the main structure so don’t know.
  12. Well my bifolds had no leaks at all and have compression seals all round, so it can be done. Mine were made by the same firm that made my windows and front door (insulated). They are oak and they use a German company to supply the mechanisms they have used many times with success. They were not overly expensive either.
  13. Whatever fuel you use you only buy insulation once and lasts (nearly) forever. I fitted my own ASHP (but have no access to gas anyway,) good insulation, solar PV and careful detailing and your energy bill will be minimal. If you design in UFH etc then the “boiler “ whatever it is can be changed out in the future. (Fusion reactor? 🤷‍♂️)
  14. I confer to those that know more than me…….
  15. You said the twin wall was 150mm outside diameter and the one I linked too is also 150mm ???? What’s complicated (at less than half the price 🤷‍♂️
  16. Why not just add a flat plate above the pipe (to stop rain ) pop riveted on straps both sides 🤷‍♂️ Not as nice looking but cheap! or https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/401747290406?
  17. When I backfilled after the supply cable was laid I was going to use sand but was told as my back fill stuff was stone free not to bother!
  18. I have used these on a few roofs and they work well https://www.screwfix.com/p/eaves-comb-filler-1000mm-20-pack/40157?tc=HB2&ds_kid=92700065972061631&ds_rl=1249407&ds_rl=1241687&ds_rl=1245250&ds_rl=1245250&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhYbT2qSd9wIVzd_tCh0YtgsCEAQYAyABEgI56fD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
  19. Breathable membrane under slates, as slates are flat there is no gap for wildlife to get access, my OSB is on the inside to a/ hold insulation in place b/ create an airtight layer. Again as slates are flat no gap for much wind to enter, we are in a windy location but never heard any flapping.
  20. Yes, all my 200mm wall cavity’s is rockwall batt filled (PIR Is a petrochemical insulation and rockwall is not, fitting PIR is difficult to get airtight and yes more expensive;)
  21. Yes mine is a warm roof, built with I joists 400mm deep full filled with rockwall batts, lined inside with OSB bubble glued together to give an airtight (but breathable) loft.
  22. Yes fir the loo and bathroom as it’s diluted not neat, but I prefer to use “elbow grease” for other locations https://www.amazon.co.uk/Elbow-Grease-Purpose-Degreaser-Solvent/dp/B085F1YNM8/ref=asc_df_B085F1YNM8/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadi
  23. Yes, should use minimal bleach with a treatment plant as it kills all the bugs, I use diluted bleach surface cleaners but no neat bleach down the loo etc. (This advise given me by treatment plant suppliers).
  24. Is,nt there now some legislation that requires manufacturers to make their stuff repairable? 🤔
  25. I have an 80 litre buffer on a “stool” made from 4x2 and thick ply top 👍
