  1. Aha! We have Nulok, and that uses metal battens and clips. Super easy to fit and repair.
  2. This is what I'm doing.... With the agreement of the architect, trim off the foam, measure and fit board (tanalised) between each rafter, screw into each rafter. Tea.Medals.
  3. That's what is brilliant about BH. A really experienced, time served professional and a no-nonsense builder giving contrasting advice. I -as a Know Knowt- have come to realise that when that happens the answer is -probably - It doesn't matter. Except it does, sometimes. What we need to know is the answer AND why. Please.
  4. Ooooh... Whassa problem with them then?
  5. My brilliant stepson called me over today to show me how he was getting on. Here ya go : it's just a little thing .... but massive to me A humble GU10 working on mains electricity for the very first time in Salamander Cottage. Another milestone. There was this nest of spaghetti which makes it possible to switch the lights from three places and this set of intermediate switches ... Quite how sparkies 'see' it all, I have no idea. I could not be more pleased. So thanks @ProDave for telling me about Scolmore Click Mode and for all the support. Had it been up to me there would have been the mandatory 3 gang switch at the door. And that's about all. A small beer tonight methinks. Just to mark the passing of another milestone.
  6. missed that ... ? But wouldn't the Utility designer need to take that into consideration anyway? I mention it because in my direct recent experience if they get the design wrong, then its their responsibility to put it right.
  7. Hmmm, Gary, the door's a mil or two out of line. ....... can see it from here.
  8. I think you could ask the supplier for that specification. Our supplier sends specificationstion to the applicant as part of the standard application process.
  9. Just the one can ? Is that all? Doin' well mate. Doin' well.
  10. If I get time, I'll photograph some of our OSB3 that has been outside for 4 years : re-used on all sorts of jobs a good few times, therefore frayed at the edges, but fine still
  11. Easy to read = easier to answer, so thanks for that. I have just talked to our architect and joked that everyone says I should put another house on our site: " Now that Wyre ( our LPA ) has its 5 year allocation in the Local Plan, unless you are doing a granny flat, you've no chance". ( of getting another house on our site). Local context is everything. Your best chance is to network like mad among your local contacts: planners, estate agents, councillors, builders Not the warmest of messages in response to a first post, but a warm welcome nevertheless.
  12. @Pete, you'll be okay if it's in stock....
  13. Naturlich! The cat now uses the ever increasing pile of invoices as his preferred spot to sunbathe. Not looking forward to the booing and hissing when he's moved into a house with no catflap.
  14. And lots to be glad about already. It only took you a year! Phhh, thats good going Welcome
  15. I really try to do that: and have done for 4 years now. And with one exception, (my timber supplier), the prices are out of my range and / or I'm treated as - how to put this politely - a nuisance. It certainly feels like that anyway. Ok. Fringe benefits come with it then? Hmmm.
  16. Stumbled, fuddle headed into Topps this morning: shop's just by the best mobile breakfast greasy spoon in the world. You should see that Doreen in action: with those buns, she's got a really really smoothe buttering action - and she lets me have AnySauceAtAll. Bliss Anyway, Topps Wedi products are out of this world - in terms of price. £600+ for a shower kit, much of which I don't need, and if I go onto justwedi.co.uk I can get what I need - and no more - for just over £260. Which leads me to ask I bet someone on here knows where to source Wedi at sensible prices? Fleabay?
  17. Ooooh, at last ... a chace to get to the January sales and get myself a ManBag. Must get one to match my workboots? Thanks Gary!
  18. I dont back-butter my toast either.....
  19. I just follow the guidance on this site The invoice always separates out the VAT (Mehrwertsteuer) , convert the value to quids and claim that.
  20. Que? Is there a German one??
  21. I last did some tiling when I was about 10 years old - way back last century. Got at least 50 square meters to lay: I have a strong feeling I'm going to enjoy this part of the build - tiling appeals to me. List of tools needed please - really fancy one of those Bosch tiling lasers......?
  22. Given a proper - that is to say competent and professional design - then price is the factor that would concern me most. Not sure of the meaning of '... also...' in
  23. I dunno what to say: maybe - What's new? German by birth, but far more loyal to the UK than ze Vaterland - posts like yours only add to my cynicism.
  24. I had to return an order to a German company (reuter.de) today. This is how the order arrived. If at the time of refusing the delivery, I'd have known what I know now, I would not have sent it back. Why? read on.... Megabad stopped delivering to the UK last year sometime. Reuter.de were cheaper than Megabad sometimes, so I ordered from them because they continued to deliver to the UK. Chatting to the guy in the Returns Department I find out that reuter.de is no longer shipping to the UK from the end of this month So bang goes that way of saving 20% then (with a further 20%off by reclaiming the VAT).... I have some other things on order - washbasins - there's a 3 week wait for them: not sure whether they're going to be delivered..... bit cross about that because if thats the case I should not have been able to purchase them. Worse things happen at sea eh?
  25. Thanks very much @Temp Good idea. Just like I have seen done on an outside drain, where the pipe is really inaccessible, but a 45 degree bend incorporated into the pipe makes the whole length (bar a few mm) cleanable.
