Only thing to do now, is to tell your neighbour you want it sorted by a proper roofer. Get a couple of quotes yourself, and advise your neighbour that they will be paying.

How would you determine wall orientation….
Big Jimbo replied to Jimbo123's topic in Bricklaying, Blockwork & Mortar
You don't have a fight on your hands. You need to tell the builder to put it right. Remember you are paying. From our previous conversation what did the builder say when you pointed out that he had fxxxxd it up ? -
New build design - thoughts welcome!

@ETC Great job. -
The neighbours new roof is going to leak. That cut tile nearest the guttering is tipping up to the point that any water ingress is never going to reach the gutter. The neighbours new roof does not look like it has been done by a propper roofer. More like somebody chancing it. I am not a roofer, so i dont know if your tiles should have been mucked in.

Court Judgments like this make me happy
Big Jimbo replied to Adsibob's topic in Party Wall & Property Legal Issues
I have, over my lifetime met a few judges, and a good few baristers. I have also known a few magistrates personally. The judges, seem to fall into my Knob heads with no grasp of real life. Baristers not much better, bloody expensive, and quite often perform badly. Magistrates. Normal people, lived a normal, real life, and in general make good decisions. I would rather have a magistrate decide my fate any day of the week. I expect that both of these couples behaved like knobs. -
I have worked in a posh house where they had Two toilets in the master en-suite. Both within there own cubicles. A Mr POO, and Mrs POO. I have also worked in a super posh house, where the master suite was 2000sq ft, and had Two en-suites. A his and hers. Both bloody massive.

I think you will be shocked at the build cost. Large amount of exterior walls for heat loss. I have done the master bedroom on the top floor a few times. Now i try to avoid it. Several estate agents, and mothers, (in excess of 10) have told me that mothers don't like it. Would there be a chance to talk to the planning dept, about reducing the footprint and building Two story. Reduced bulk and mass etc. I sound horid, but i just think you might be shocked at the build costs. -

As @JohnMo not a fan. Expensive to build, and odd shape. The only important thing is that you like it. -
Unauthorised deviation from extension plans
Big Jimbo replied to Jimbo123's topic in House Extensions & Conservatories
Dont worry about that. Not your problem. Nothing in life is perfect, but that is way too far out. Make them sort it out. I doubt the builder would put up with that at his own house. You don't have to get nasty. Just simply say that you can't put up with that much of mistake, and ask him if he would be happy to put up with that at his house. They have done it to save having any work to do around the manhole cover. Lazy gits. Builders like that, give all builders a bad reputation. -
Howdens kitchen - how to negotiate?
Big Jimbo replied to johnhenstock83's topic in Kitchen Units & Worktops
Ive had 60% off them for a cheapish kitchen. Perhaps they were miles off target for that month. I would aim for minimum 40% -
Unauthorised deviation from extension plans
Big Jimbo replied to Jimbo123's topic in House Extensions & Conservatories
If you were out there complaining about 10mm i would call you an arse. but 100mm.... get them to take it down and do it again. If they can't even set it out taking reference from the existing house they should be shot. If i come around for a cup of tea when you are all finished, the first thing i am going to say is, Why is your extension built at a wonky angle ? I sure i wouldn't be the only One to pick it up. -

One of the reasons i would get it re-done is that the brickies at my daughters did exactly the same thing. entension off the rear wall. They followed the garden fence between her and her neighbour. I was putting on a flat roof so not a problem there. However that corner of her new kitchen inside, which wraps around looks crap. 100mm out is a lot in my opinion. -

Jeez. I would be very pi$$ed off. What sort of builders line it up with a boundary wall ! So your existing house is x meters deep, and the extension is a further 10 meters deep. When you stand and look down the side of your extension, and continue your eye down the side of your existing property it is either going to go in by 100mm in the middle , or stick out ? Either way it is going to look s4!te. I would make them put it right, and be keeping a very close eye on them from now on. -
Have you got a reciprocating saw. you could run around that in no time

What a pain in the butt, and what a bloody mess you are making. There is half a skip load there by the time you have finished.

IMO you deffo need a good planning consultant. He will really need to sell the carbon negative (even better) to the local old gits on the parish P.C. and the council planning dept. I feel that if you dont sell it really well, public consultation etc, (Free tea and cake at the local villiage hall) to get a lot of local support, the council will just ignore your good intensions.

I can only see it for being water run off. Have you asked them ?

Underground workspace - how to shore up and waterproof?

There are also liquid rubber products now. Might be worth considering. Big pond liner on the outside, liquid rubber on the inside. -

What we need is something that we can produce in this country. can install for 5K. That will produce 1.25K's worth of energy every year. (Payback in 4 years), and will last say 8 years. I had avery smart client a few years ago. She invented coloured x-rays, which are used all over the world at ports, airports etc. She made a fortune. She didn't need money, so wanted to try and provide some sort of energy providing source that would be so cheap as to be all but free for the world. (Have her name live long after her) The last time i spoke to her, she had come up with some very cheap heating system. She explained it as making atoms rush around really fast, bumping into each other and making lots of heat. She went on to say that the problem was that people were also made of atoms, and was concerned about people being around the atom super fast bumpy thing at the same time. She thought it would basically kill them. There is hope however that there are some very smart people out there. -

I like the idea of a great big one piece pond liner type affair, and build inside it. If the water table was below the bottom you could prob get away with it. It the water table was high though, the pressure trying to push the building in would be immense. Years ago had a mate who did a similar thing. Had a great big hole. Concrete base, with engineering brick walls. He did something like boat building for a living, so bought a load of fiberglass home, and did the inside including the floor. It was dry as a bone, and remained so for atleast 10 years while he lived there. -
My old mate didn't manage to pull the live wire out of his mouth. He was stripping it with his teeth to re-wire the electric mower. He had lent in through the kitchen window and switched the socket off. Double socket wrong side switched off !. Old re-wire type fuse didn't blow. I was told that his blood had turned black fron literally being boiled. They think it took him several minutes to die. He was 25. That was 1987. Still miss him.

Dehumidifier in damp house to speed up plaster drying time
Big Jimbo replied to Adsibob's topic in Plastering & Rendering
Better off trying to create some air movement. Get all the windows and doors open, and if possible hire a big fan and stick it by one of the external doors pointing into the house. Or, just do like Nick Knowles mob, and paint the walls while still wet. Full thick first coat, no watering down.
