Yeah but it’s very easy to calculate the exact amount for a slab i worked out out prior to poring that I would need 95 cube for footings I was three cube out and just added it to the last load
-
Yes they will meter the amount You will only pay for what is used
-
Your better off power floating if you are looking at tiling directly onto the slab Tge only drawback is that it may mean that your contractor has to come back later that evening I think what he is referring to is the trend to polish the slab to a finish It rarely goes well we are watching an episode of building the dream The Architect (Client) has done just that followed by eight hour of heavy rain Not the finish he hoped for You can hire a power float if you don’t mind doing it yourself after the concrete contractor has gone home They are not difficult to use
-
No, you're not doing anything wrong Groundworks concrete quarys are so relaxed You will often find the owner knee deep in mud As Tenants has said Door knocking time i rang our haulage contractor as I hadn’t had a bill for the 12 k I owed him Multi million pound operation Told me he would take my details “ But someone’s knobbed off with THE pen”
-
Hi A very similar size house to ours at 256 mtrs over two floors 300 k sounds very realistic I’m hoping to finish ours for 220k depending on how much WE decide to spend on the kitchen

Most accidents with cement mixer relate to the cranking handle. There's still a lot of them about. Broken fingers and hands. Lids dropping on head while trying to start. The type that the larger hire company’s have with a battery and a pull start are safer But more expensive. One of the young brickies that I had working on our plot broke his hand on the very first day. After that they would wait for me to arrive to start it and leave it running all day if I wasn’t there to restart it. They were used to using cylo mix.

Sure is Pete

Exactly Mulled it over all night It wasn’t as big or disruptive of a job as I thought Thanks again for the support Bit of tough love off Dave also
-
Yep exactly Massive job once all the units and tiles are in
-
Thanks for all the advise ive squeezed a 6 mil in the conduit I’ve had to hack a bit of screed up to remove the bend against the wall and have used the down light holes to fish the cable to the un skimed wall by the mains Only taken me five hours Lesson learned
-
It’s buried in screed
-
No id put less than two metres in the screed from the intended island to the wall and run the 4 mil up the wall across the plant room cieling and study down the wall into the consumer unit Tge annoying thing is that I could have chipped some screed up and run a six mil in the same way The ceilings are now skinned It wouldn’t be good to get a 6 mil cable in now But much worse once the kitchen and flooring is in So bows the time to replace If I’m going to have to doi it
-
Thanks Dave No it my mistake The Electrian is real belt and braces I’d put Some conduit in the screed for an igniter for a gas hob Not knowing that my wife would be talked into an induction hob Neil the electrician said I would struggle to get 6 mill through and to find out the loading As he had no experience of induction hobs They emailed me back with 4 kw Instead of the 7 kw In your opinion do I need to replace the cable Onoff's suggestion seems like a bit of a lifeline
-
That’s helpful ill look into that
-
No it’s all boarded in and clipped it’s runs from the consumer unit about 15 mtrs directly to the hob A week ago I could have taken some boards down
-
I ran a separate supply for the induction hob At the time I asked the Kitchen designer for the loading of the hob that he was supplying He came back to me with 4kw Our electrician said 4 mil will be fine on its own Supply and easier for me to get through the ducting Now it’s been pointed out to me that the hob is actually 7kw It will be very disruptive to get a 6 mil in now My electrician friend has said don’t panic find out the loading and well sort it Kicking myself what are are my options

We have been following this series via catch up tv. Well worth a watch. We've watched all the Kevin McCloud programs Whilst most we enjoyed Some of the budgets and overspends didn’t feel relevant to us. Now the building the dream series seems very relevant to us all on here. Each one that we have watched so far are looking to be as near passive and airtight as possible. All are on a tight budget. All are struggling to keep costs down. Starting to sound like a forum post. Well worth a look at

But also His learning curve shouldn’t be at your expense

I’m guessing that the internal walls are all stud partitions, which are quick and easy to build and the materials that they are built from are inexpensive If any of them are block they would be included in the main structure

I wouldn’t pay any of the exstra costs He should know that even if you had given him a verbal instruction Its not enough He needs a written instruction to carry out any extra work Fare enough if it is something like exstra concrete it isn’t always possible to have a discussion with the client But the exstras that you have listed Sound more like part of the original quote I would sit down and workout what you think that you owe him then email the emended figure and hold back the payment that was due Youve tried being reasonable and it hasn’t worked one company that I do a significant amount of work for hasn’t paid me October November and Decembers invoices They are currently refinancing Not sure why that should be my problem it I wouldn’t dream of having a rant at them He needs to remember that He is working for you Not the other way round Delaying his payment may remind him of that

nod replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Building Regulations
I’ve spoken to bc about this And they were fine not having the front door as wheel chair access -
I would insist that all frames with damage are replace Magic man is good If you or one of your other trades had caused the damage Why accept a repair Would take delivery of a new car and then cont chips away to sort out chips and scratches
-
As I stated earlier Its upto him to make sure that the paving will stand heavy traffic Many new developments have large areas of block paving that have cranes and lorries running over for several years I wouldn’t be to concerned You may just have the inconvenience of constantly Jet washing mud off
