Partitions: Timbers studs Vs Metal C studs
nod replied to MortarThePoint's topic in General Construction Issues
You would put the same amount of pattrress in timber as metal for rads kitchen cupboards etc We use Abito boards on May of our jobs So no need to use pattress Screw directly to the the boards The versatility comes in that mf come in a range of sizes and lengths Every length is true No sorting Quick to load also -

There’s no comparison Ive been fitting mf for over 35 years Straighter far better acoustics More versatile Three or four times quicker -
I would definitely appeal Whist it’s frustrating for you These objections usually only delay the inevitable
-
No Paint it on and wash it off after ten minutes Repeat till the stain has gone
-
If it’s a water stain cant see from pic I normally use Oxalic acid
-
We’ve just purchased two plots with three acres attached So they are about But as above land and estate agents seem to be the only route
-
Whilst I’ve never seen the point of mask wearing There’s been a definite HS policy of not wearing masks or gloves on sites AL HS reps have ignored COVID Apart from sticking the odd sign up in the toilets
-
I work on a few different sites with very keen HSE No shorts No radios No eating in the building No mention of COVID Just a couple of taped up sinks Self Builders are unlikely to get a visit
-
I’d throw it at the SE BC are sure to want a drawing
-
Always 3
-
Yep A real problem for self builders Companies have the continuity and look after there lads and as already cover down time The problem with Brickies that are doing private work is They will want to earn the same or more per day as your dad and be used to doing half as much per day These are the ones that are available to self builders Same with my business plastering and render Whilst our earnings of around 450 per day might sound high Two guys will skim a five bed house out in three days

Exactly You won’t find better than Hilti
-
I’d just tell them to hang on to the tiles for a few weeks Though they may ask you to pay for them now that they have arrived
-
I’ve used plenty of Hilti Always great quality Plus reps will drop off also
-
I think what the manufacturer is telling you is don’t store under a tarp or in a leaky garage Limestone is the same It’s simply not possible to have tiles land on site and start laying them We never seal before laying But we are very careful and used to them No daft pencil marks or excess adhesive My advise for what it’s worth would be to store them in the house or the garage on pallets Take any cling film off Avoid direct sunlight We normally seal a couple of off cuts as we’ve had sealers leaving a yellow residue
-
You won’t get away with it with a single skin The ones in the photo are double skin
-
Thad the one At our previous build He arrived in his car with his own personal reg Yep you’ve guessed it Talked about bats for an hour Had a couple of glasses of wine Walked around the plot and said “Yep no bats here “ our contaminated land was even better Masses of detail 3D computer generated model No site visit Warranty Didnt get out of the car to inspect the foundations To muddy inspected the roof from the ground Did say I’d done a grand job Final inspection 10 minutes Didn't look round the house I can only dream ?
-
Me neither ? I was thinking more along the lines of bat surveyor ?
-
She’s a real good girl She trained for 4 years earning about 250 per week working for someone It’s amazing how much women spend on nails She’s booked up for months ahead Even before Covid While building has been ok for me I would do Something different given my time again
-
Exactly Lots of Huns out there ?

Looks fantastic You will need a big budget -
As I say Probably double Self builders will always have to pay more than site rates Whilst labour rates may seem quite high They are simply catching up other industries Our sons partner has set up for herself as a nail technician First year of trading as a sole trader Her profit was 88k But for the COVID she was set to pass that in her second year There are plenty of jobs that pay well But most involve you being self employed no safety net like an employed person
-
I wouldn’t like to guess Perhaps double
-
Just thought I’d post this to perhaps help those working out there budget I bumped into a friend who runs a bricklaying business Most of the sites in my area (NW) seem to use these middle men for labour Here’s what he’s paying for site work Stacker and tubed mortar and bricks dropped to work area £600 Per thousand face work Extra for detail £18 m2 block work
