This is my main bugbear. And the only "problem" to solve.. The 2 main pillars, are just shy of 7ft. Ideally I needed 8ft, to cut to size. So a compromised pillar height of max 710mm is only possible = I'm 70mm short of the ground. So I need to build two "mini support pads". And furthermore at the exact point my ground slopes steeply down too. Urgh (the last issue, due to the foot-too-low build issue plaguing me still). In this pic you can see the height of the slope down. From drive it's good 1.5ft ( 1/2 a ft only..... is what my plan said it should've been! ). And the spirit level is 1200mm long: the exact pillar's furthest point.

Decking boards to run same as/ parallel to the ledger board. I managed to get 2 nails in the top of the 3 centre hangers where the cill is. Just got one in each side, of each overhanging section. And put 2 extra nails in on the front each side of each too- Im fairly sure these 3 hangers ok.

Hi J, thing is my support posts for my handrails attatch to the outside: as it was with 6x4, this gave them good timber to fix to. But if I put this outer joist in.. the gap doesn't help this later side support post fixing. I'm not quite on board with the wider suggestion to cover the end grains of the deckking boards. Yes these will go horizontally- across/ parralel to the ledger. Thanks, zh

New n'bors, young farmer couple, nice to me actually. So far. No. The flags ( this one I deliberately included in the photo) are to do with Eisteddfod 2022, very locally to us this year. The assumption was... they were doing it at me? After my serious trials for 5-1/2 years here Onoff, I'll let that insinuation slide. Any thoughts on my work today? Still mulling my outer ones. Actually @PeterW do you think I can bend a joist hanger around the side? Reason for doubling 6x2 to 6x4.. is cosmetic only, ie the outer one clads over the side hanger 'wing' if my idea is any good. Thanks, zh

Offered up ledger to see what's what, tapped it once & stuck.. so had to continue. Alot of sledging to get on. So good results, firm as hell. Level. RHS plumb, LHS slightly off. So I'll have to get joist hangers on like so. Middle 3 joist hangers can't even fix to the ledger top tho.. cill in the way. Zh

No shouldn't do. That's a good idea.. understood. The surity of the doubling of boards on the sides though.. might be a bit compromised? Id prefer them as my yellow drawing, if there's a way. Could I bend the LH hanger wing back.. & fix to side of ledger? ---- Got my two 6x6 posts, hangers & twisty nails. And the front 6x2. So I aim to get the outer 4 sided frame up today & tmrw. But I need to go over what the posts are anchored to 1st. A few ideas before. One thing to bear in mind, my posts are just shy of 7ft.. & to the top of my ledger.. is 7ft. No other 6x6 posts in town you see. So I have to probably sit them up 2" on a pad of somesort.

How do I fix these two outer timbers together at the back here? Hangers will only go on one side. (I am cladding these outer sides with another 6x2 later so fix won't be seen)..

Good idea! Plus saves whacking into ledger once up. Am trying to blitz as much as poss in next 3 days. Found the twisty nails ok. Thx

Hi Onoff. Did this first up, but order history doesn't go back 2 yrs. It's ok Im taking an offcut in & go into the few places to try find it.

I know it is. All I was asking, is if you recognised the type/ where from. I have very few places here. I know how my last one worked, i need to track down where i got it from. Can you recognise it, from zooming into the photo? Every type i look at on www " 6x2 joist hanger" looks nothing like it. This is why I am asking, with a photo to help. Thanks, zoot

Chaps, anyone recognise these alu joist hangers? I've spent ages on my cabin thread trying to find a link to them. I used twisty nails, & wrapped the top bit over the beam. Thanks, zoot

I did most of this, timber up then marked the 7 holes v. Accurately. But difference here is I couldn't resin, the put timber up & insert rods thru holes & into my wall holes. Hence the extra day & half work. Flat wall.. would have done your way & sorted in one morning. Anyway last big sod is later today trying to get the timber on. Then.. Im downhill. Apart from setting my pillars in ground.

Yup. Im new to m12 stud tho, & angle grinders.. no idea what disc I had on it, metal compatible? seemingly not then if I had the struggle to get nuts on 3 rough ends. Hand filing for hours with a 4mm file! Done my 7 studs as best I could. Last 4 curing now. As I couldn't offer timber up/ place rods thru it to set (as I needed access to the tubes & resin spill within my hole fronts).. Im gonna have a helluva job getting the timber on the 7 studs. Need another hand, & alot of fettling taking the ledger on/ off & faffing its holes to get it up, & slipped onto the studs. Urgh.
