  1. The dimension of the soffit is 450mm (plus tiles) so I guess I will have to include some hop up brackets/boards to keep things safe and have the scaffolding out far enough.
  2. A total defrost can sometimes help
  3. Mr Punter mentioned a deflection value of 8 which is a good guide now. Just wondered what others have achieved and have been happy (or unhappy) with?
  4. Ah good point mate, they have quoted 72mm wide even though I told them I want minimum deflection
  5. been in contact with a few suppliers and I've been quite shocked at the deflection's quoted. One told me 18 is normal and another has told me on my drawing, the max was 22mm with an average of 12-15mm. That's with 304mm joists at 400 centres.
  6. How far should the scaffolding be from the wall to give a good safe work space?
  7. Out of interest, what size of hot water store should you have for a wood burner/boiler, is there a certain amount of litres per KW output?
  8. I'm sure I saw some sort of heat exchanger unit, that could basically take various heat supplies and supply them to a store. For the life of me I can't find where I saw it
  9. If you have gas, would it not be cheaper to have a small combi boiler for the summer? That's what I'm contemplating and if possible, have the heated water from PV go through the boiler, so the boiler tops up the temp if needed? I'm hoping to use a wood boiler so very interested in this thread
  10. Thanks again Declan So if I've understood correctly, I wouldn't have any bottom transoms where I'm bridging a wall? I really like that idea of the loading bay How high are the standards and their fixing points? What ladders am I allowed/supposed to use? Anything I've looked at kind of shows internal staircases.
  11. It is, it's 2535 internal and 3365 external
  12. So I would use 2 diagonal braces to make a V?
  13. Cheer bud. I saw that video in another post but think I prefer the normal Polarwall method. I think insulation wise, I lose exactly the same which ever way I go
  14. Here is a couple of pics that show what I mean about the porch and external fireplace. As I said these are single storey and I can't build them afterwards as it's all in ICF. I assume I need to use something like a bridging ledger??
  15. Thanks so much Declan. I also found some more info on bay infills on page.15
  16. A picture speaks a 1000 words That's exactly what I was trying to explain. Yes that's 50mm boards as it's the same as the rails I'm so jealous of basements
  17. My inner leaf of ICF is 100mm, so I would need to get a good fixing through the timer plate, through the 100mm polystyrene and then into the concrete. My worry is the polystyrene could let the fixing bend downwards with weight. I did mention losing the insulation to polarwall, but I intend to fit insulation back into between the joists (against the timber plate), so I'll only really be losing insulation where the joists sit against the timber plate
  18. cheers I'll contact the suppliers to look at what options they suggest
  19. Not sure how top hung will work too well with Polarwall ICF though, as I will be replacing part/all of and ICF panel with timber plank for a fixing plate, so I would have to notch out a space for the top chord to sit onto or add another timber plate onto the timber plank (that's replaced the ICF panel) and the joist sits onto that
  20. Thanks guys If a supplier offered a choice of hanging options, is there a proffered method or is it just do what's easiest for me?
  21. Would it help to fit a small wifi camera to the end of the pex tube and see what's in the pipe? Something like https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-Spy-IP-Camera-Wireless-WiFi-HD-1080P-Hidden-Home-Security-Night-Vision-UK/253983852854?hash=item3b229e0936:m:m8T1pmIJAwIaXUhqLAsyUQw
  22. so 8mm of the overall span or per certain span?
  23. Just found this useful guide http://www.barrattcommercialsupport.co.uk/uploads/appendix-20---kwikstage-user-guide.pdf
  24. Thanks Declan 2. Are return transoms the correct/only way of doing a 90 degree return? 3 - Do you by any chance have a pic of that? 5 - My build has a lot in internal/external corners so lengths are kind of staggered (if that makes sense?), so I can't get my head around how I know how much bracing I might need. Is the bracing specific Kwikstage products or normal scaffold tube/fixings? 11 - I'll post up some pics to show what I mean
