Just had a quote for a Zappi but awaiting clarification as to whether or not it will conflict with our Power Diverter. Our GO rate increases at midnight tonight.
-
Okay, didn't realise that was an option. I'll check with Mini 👍🏻
-
Yikes! Which home charger do you use Jack?
-
Ah, we have one of the first generation Power Diverter fitted so that could be an issue. Chances are we'll only need to charge it once a week so may stick to using the cheap nighttime rate. I presume the Pod Point does at least allow you to programme the charging times?
-
Thanks for that. My understanding was that Zappy requires a minimum input of 1.4kWh from solar or it will draw any shortfall from the grid. Are you saying you can limit it such that it only charges if sufficient there is sufficient solar to meet the minimum required? Was also thinking untethered, if only for future proofing against connector type changes 👍🏻

Mrs NSS has a Mini electric on order so I wondered whether any of the electric car users among you have any recommendations as to which home charger to go for? Mini partner with Pod Point but thought I'd see what others would choose before committing. We have solar pv but rarely have enough surplus to make much of a contribution to car charging. As such, we'll aim to use the 4-hour Octopus Go night rate for charging so the ability to programme charging times is the only obvious requirement. Any suggestions/experiences would be appreciated 👍🏻

Probably not the best (or most obvious) place to post that question so I'll start a new thread.

Right, Mini electric on order. Next question, any recommendations as to which home charger to go for? Mini partner with Pod Point but thought I'd se what others would choose before committing.

Thanks for that. Much appreciated 👍🏼

Thanks @Carrerahill but most of that's flown straight over my head. Heat pump is rated 8kW output so I assume input is between 2 and 3. Main fuse is 100A so from what I think you're saying I guess I should be safe?

Quick question. Wife wants a Mini electric. We're already on Octopus Go and use the four-hour cheap rate period to run the 8kW ASHP to heat the domestic water. Would charging the car at 7kWh at the same time have any unwanted consequences?

We have Karndean flooring throughout and run the cooling input temp at around 12-14C which allowed us to maintain a floor temp around 18/19C through the recent hot spell. We were running it for 4 hours in the night and 8 hours during the day. As in Jack's experience, we've had no issues with condensation here.

MVHR with adiabatic cooling
NSS replied to Garald's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
We've just arrived home from 4 days away. Left the underfloor cooling running for the four hour cheap Octopus Go rate in the middle if the night and between 10am and 6pm (when PV covers almost all the energy needed to run it). Left the MVHR in auto (fan speed 1 8am-8pm and FS2 8pm to 8am). Downstairs stayed between 22C and 23C throughout and upstairs (no cooling on) was at 24.5c when we arrived home at noon today. -
Octopus Smart Meter Display suddenly showing export rate
NSS replied to NSS's topic in Photovoltaics (PV)
No mate, we're on Go and our FiT payments come via Good Energy. -

You know what, I just can't be bothered.

Again, no, it's with Good Energy. -

No SEG, ours was one of the late FIT installs. -
Octopus Smart Meter Display suddenly showing export rate
NSS replied to NSS's topic in Photovoltaics (PV)
No, you're on the right track, but seems you have the opposite info to us. Our home display now shows the amount being exported at any moment (it previously showed zero when exporting) whereas our online account only shows usage, not exports. We're on Octopus Go. -
Do you leave your boiling water tap on at nigh?
NSS replied to Adsibob's topic in Kitchen & Household Appliances
Sorry, missed that. -
Do you leave your boiling water tap on at nigh?
NSS replied to Adsibob's topic in Kitchen & Household Appliances
Surely that is not strictly accurate. The rate of heat loss when the differential between the tap's tank is at 98 degrees and the surrounding room temp is 20 degrees will be greater than when the tank has cooled to say 75 degrees. -
Octopus Smart Meter Display suddenly showing export rate

👍🏻 -
Last week our display unit indicated that it had been updated and since then has shown a 'live' figure for kW being exported when there's excess PV rather than just showing a zero. Anyone else noticed this? Was hoping it would mean the hourly/daily/weekly export amounts would now show on our Octopus account (online) but nothing as yet.

Getting advice on airtightness
NSS replied to Helen2's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
Interested that you quote air quality as being your priority. That was exactly the objective with our build and, as you rightly say, to aim for only 4m3/hr/m2 seems a missed opportunity that could risk that priority. We achieved 1.6 and the mvhr has provided an air quality that has dramatically improved my wife's life (she has a degenerative lung condition and severe allergies, both of which are exacerbated by airborne particles). Our build is TF so i can't advise on yours, but there are plenty on this forum who can probably point you in the right direction. Best of luck with it.
