Thermal Bridge / Condensation - ???
Ralph replied to Ryan Bazeley's topic in Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs)
I don't see any issue with this. It looks very similar to what I have. Instead of SIPs I have a Scotframe kit which i s really a SIP hybrid. Looks a bit like this except polyurethane instead of rockwool. -
I can still remember the backache from picking tatties in the holidays as a child and I don't want to do that again!
-
Did not know that was even a thing, could well work.
-
That tractor and stoneburier is exactly what I'm looking for but that is an expensive hire. We have a lot of fruit and veg pickers around here, might well be worth finding out if they want some extra cash.
-
The farmer could probably do some of it but we also have quite a bit already landscaped as in the picture with terraces and bunds as we have a flood issues with surface water coming off fields. I think a tractor with one of those big stone scanners would trash it. I was hoping there was something more like a rotavator size but can't find anything.

We cleared and scraped much more ground that we thought we would and have ended up with quite a lot of bare soil. The quality of it is fine but I have noticed that we have a lot of stones, ranging from 5cm pebbles right up to 20cm+ rocks. Does anyone know of a small machine that could be hired to remove the stones? I don't fancy doing the 1,500 sqm by hand and the farmer's stone picker needs a tractor so is too big.

That's kind of what I was getting at.
-
How does that fit with legionella advice of a 60 degree temp?
-
From what I read it's a bit of everything. Increased demand with reduced supply, impact from COVID shutdown, logistics issues with containers shortages and a bit of brexit. I don't think we would be able to build the same house if we were starting this year. As it is we have a fixed price contract and our builder is struggling to finish with a profit.

I really like our RK door but I just can't get the day latch to work. ie. if you close the door it's always locked from the outside, no matter how I set the thumb turn on the inside. I do need to go back to them, again.
-
Not seen one close to that. https://www.vidaxl.co.uk/e/vidaxl-aluminium-front-door-anthracite-90x200-cm/8720286231449.html?&gclid=Cj0KCQjws-OEBhCkARIsAPhOkIZ2oYC2Ip9BWtxAuFrvQlVzl55_1BAI19WMXM25Ae59fCswgjlxWVQaApxxEALw_wcB probably too small. You can get a steel security door for £250 and pump insulation in it.
-
What do you consider reasonably priced?
-
With lot of patience you could probably make something that, from a distance, at dusk and with a squint, looked like an aluminum door but you do really notice the difference in quality when you open and close them. The prices are painful though,

We have a similar spec with a Daikin etc maybe two less rads and I would say you are about 30% over.
-
Probably the most common model of vehicle on my street. Must have something to do with the shooting estates.
-
That would certainly be cheaper. I'll take a look at that.
-
That could work, thanks. Thanks, we are getting there, on the last stretch think.
-
It's a thought but I think we need them built out a little. The look a little spindly, especially where they meet the roof.

Hello all, I'm trying to find a solution to clad the steel columns and the edge of the balcony below. The roofers previously said that the steel cladding was not suitable (not 100% sure why not) We were going to use aluminum soffit board from https://www.marleyalutec.co.uk/products/evoke-fascia-soffit/ which is rigid with a foam core but they don't seem to be able to supply us, it's always on back order. I've found this https://www.columncasing.co.uk/other-products/ but it's pricey. Any other thoughts form anyone? Thanks.

Hi, any conveyancing solicitor should be able to handle the land purchase. My understanding is that people tend to use a standard building contract from Scottish Building Contract Committee, that's what we did using this one: https://www.scottishbuildingcontracts.com/files/5d2f356ca54fd-sbc559.pdf your builder should be familiar with it. Generally the architect administers the contract etc with solicitors only being involved if it goes horribly wrong. Our architect has been very good on that front.

HI I don't have any great detail photos, we're still working on it but this one shows the block work with and without the insulation. I'll take more at the weekend.
-
We have blockwork out of the ground with the cladding sitting proud of it to there is a ventilation space behind the cladding (cladding is cedral rather than wood) . The exposed blockwork is then faced with PIR then a panel of the flat cedral board. But then we don't have a suspended floor.

We agreed a fixed price contract at the start of last year. Builder has said that if he was pricing it now he would be adding 20% - 30% on to it due to materials and labour price increases.
-
I thought it had already had 2 or 3 hikes this year already.
