  1. I tend to agree. I think there are much better potential uses of it such as medical innovation.
  2. We only had the cassette loo in the caravan as it was a new build so bought a cheap loo (called a “toilet to go” hence the sign) from Homebase which was about £50 and plumbed it into the drain temporarily. We already had a Khyam shelter (essentially a tent without windows) and erected that round it. Threw in loo rolls and hand wipes and it was good to go. We binned it once the downstairs loo was installed. Photo before the tent went up.
  3. Where do you stand with the building warrant? Have you completed everything prescribed in the original warrant or are you planning to amend the warrant to take in the new work rather than complete the work under the existing warrant and apply for a new one? And planning permission? You can only claim the vat refund on the work covered by the planning permission I believe. I have just put in a vat claim for my (new build) house 7 years after work started. I have yet to hear whether I will be successful but I am remaining hopeful.
  4. I can see you’re a joy to live with . Bet she deserves a medal . I hope you have identical tiles or this thread could take on a life of it’s own a la boxing in while you decide which ones to lay where
  5. And as an added thought and to cover your back, write to Buildzone, refer to your earlier conversation and say that your understanding is that you are covered by their policy until the formal completion certificate is issued or until the expiry date of the policy, whichever is earlier, and to let you know by return if that is not the case.
  6. The BS who came to my house (30th Nov) didn’t say that it would be signed off during the visit, he said that he would let me know. He will probably point out things that he is not prepared to accept so you know it won’t be then anyway (or mine did at the initial inspection). Following day I got this: I have spoken with Mark and the application for completion has been put forward for acceptance so the completion certificate should be with you. Then the completion certificate came on 8th (by email). I take it that the 8th is the formal date but it didn’t matter to me as I already had insurance. So it was only a week between final inspection and the certificate arriving. I would line up cover and as soon as soon as the completion certificate arrives ring up and put the policy on risk. This was in Scotland and as always YMMV.
  7. I hope they can develop it for complex medical procedures in the future.
  8. It was @SteamyTea who said more should be constructed off site. Well this is press a button on site and watch! Wonder if they get the equivalent of paper jams ......

  10. Unless the tiles aren’t identical so something like Travertine where you might want to have a look at them and play around with the patterns they create. We did similar with the oak flooring to even out the shades and knots, and used the ones we liked the least to go under furniture.
  11. No A3 colour laser that you could use at work for the odd occasion they are useful? I have BW and colour laser printers here but don't use the colour one all that much TBH. I would go for the A3 BW laser personally.
  12. Looks like a great project. Am looking forward to seeing how it develops.
  13. Yes, that's me. I look for companies that don't test on animals but I bet that I have loads of plastic bead products here.
  14. Aren't they in loads of things now? Face scrubs, shower gel, toothpaste et al? I think there are beads in things that aren't plastic too but I have to admit I don't know what they use instead.
  15. Thanks. I hope to get it fixed in April fingers crossed!
  16. Ha ha, my poor neighbours have been 'illegal' for 10 years then and they had no idea until January! If you buy a new house are you supposed to check with the council whether it's got a completion certificate as it's clearly not a pre requisite for a sale?
  17. Ah OK. I reckon that I got lost in space as far as council tax was concerned somewhere between Kent, Edinburgh and the Borders .
  18. How does that work then? I thought council tax was only relevant to a property? How can it move with you once you've moved out? I moved out of a rented flat in Edinburgh which was band F but didn't take the band with me anywhere but I was still paying council tax on the house in Kent at that point which was on the market. When that property sold I wasn't paying council tax anywhere for 6 months until the council tax people swooped in and sent us a bill.
  19. IME the council tax officers are much more astute than building control. We had a large twin axle touring caravan here which my hubby lived in for a year before we moved in and we kept it here for a couple of years after we moved in, in the hope that we could say that we were still living in it. By the time they caught up with us though a year later it was obvious that we were living here full time so we started paying (band G ugh). What does a temp completion certificate provide you with that’s different from not having one. I get it if you are desperate to do the vat reclaim but if you’re not what’s the point of one?
  20. Just move in. They will soon decide when you need to pay council tax and will want to snoop around. I think you’d be on a sticky wicket to avoid it if you were clearly living there. Think we were here for a year before they caught up with us and we had to pay it though. We could hardly argue. We had all of our furniture here by then . I live in Scotland though and YMMV.
  21. Nope, they will only sign it off when the building work meets the standards laid down. I lived in mine for over 7 years before I got the completion certificate. There was a reason for that, but building control never knew that until much later and no one seemed to care. They only cared that we were paying council tax. We moved in when the kitchen / family room was complete and the downstairs shower room and did everything else a bit at a time until work came to a halt. Maybe some councils are more worried about such things than others but mine certainly didn’t care. In fact my neighbours’ house is still not signed off after 10 years! They bought it from the builder who sold me this plot and it only came to light that it wasn’t signed off when mine was finally signed off (it was on the same building warrant). The council didn’t seem to care in the slightest but my neighbours are starting legal action against their solicitor as it was something that was supposed to have been sorted and they are now having to pay for the remedial work that the council wants completed before they will sign it off. One thing to watch for is insurance. A normal policy won’t cover you. I got mine as a ‘self build work in progress’ policy from QuoteRack who specialise in non standard insurance. It wasn’t particularly expensive either; maybe a bit more than a normal policy and I couldn’t have accidental damage cover.
  22. Coconut oil is a great moisturiser too so use some sans sand after getting rid of the crud and you’ll have the best hands and nails on the block
  23. Strip and service . It’s the bottom knob that controls the temperature that is fecked. I will take advice on here if I need to purchase a new one. Seem to have made too many poor choices here already!
  24. There is nae chance of me retiling anything and I can’t get a tiler here for love nor money. The main one in the local town moved jobs and the one remaining one won’t come and work on bits and bobs. I know, I’ve tried! He came out and tiled the extension which was obviously a whole room and never came back out to do the bits and bobs left in other rooms. Guess I need to try to find a similar shower that will cover the holes up. The tiles are quite big and the ones the shower is attached to have the shower screen attached to them too
  25. Crap! Bought from the Plumb Centre showroom in 2010. I don’t mind changing it but need something that will fit with the bloody holes in the tiles I guess. Never used the jets etc. anyway. The sort of thing you use a couple of times for the novelty value and then use the main shower head all the time. I do like a bit of a rainfall shower myself! Helps wash girlie hair products out
