  1. Salaried? Would probably go for the more complex to prevent brain death and boredom (although as I get older and more jaded the easier option becomes more attractive by the day). Self employed? Easy jobs for sure.
  2. It’s much easier to quote for a new boiler or a new standard heating system that plumbers do all the time I imagine, than a new build with UFH and several bathrooms from scratch, first fix being done in a different timeline to the second fix, some materials being provided by the customer and others to be provided by the plumber. Add all that complexity in and in a way you can see why they might be attracted to the more straightforward jobs. There is additional risk when quoting a fixed price for large and complex work and some trades may not feel comfortable with that so the smaller jobs may well be the ones they seek. There is also the ability to keep cash flow ticking along much more easily with smaller jobs.
  3. The plumber I had out more than 2 weeks ago was here for about half an hour having driven about 30 miles, said he would come back to me with a quote and I’m still waiting. I’ve no idea why they come if they don’t want the job. He knew what the job was before he came as @Nickfromwales spoke to him about it.
  4. Trouble is my knee has a hole in the meniscus that catches when the knee moves causing the pain. I can’t see how supplements would help that really. My other knee is great, not even a twinge. I tell ya, whoever designed the knee has a lot to answer for
  5. Didn’t you get a couple of quotes back for the plumbing a while back or did I dream that? Don’t talk to me about plumbers. On the whole the most useless trade I had here. I had 7 of them during the build and bar 1 they were all hopeless, expensive, and unreliable, and my heating ended up like a disaster zone. Back to your plumbers maybe they think they can make more money sweeping up lots of small jobs rather than 1 big one? Or your job is more complex than they want to take on? Or they don’t want to be tied up for as long as your job will take? I struggle to find anyone here who knows how UFH works. And with 4 wetrooms you are so going to want someone who knows what they are doing. There is just more work around at present than they know what to do with it seems. And after the quote comes pinning them down to a date. Another joy to come I’m sure!
  6. Snooze ya lose. Out of stock for delivery now and none in my 'local' SF (well 35 miles away) to collect. Not to worry I'm sure the baby drills aren't that sought after so will wait for some others to come up.
  7. You know why already surely? Cos it’s an art form for @Onoff
  8. “I’m smarter than the average bear Boo Boo” (the game isn’t over until it’s over )
  9. It was other people in the office who used to mention it actually, the guy himself never talked about it. And it was mostly mentioned in the context of how could it be so when he was so hopeless in his work. I can never understand why people settle for a job they hate. One life, live it, although I’ve maybe been lucky and always found something I have (mostly) enjoyed.
  10. I worked with someone with a first from Oxford, in geography I believe. He couldn’t do software development all the time he had a hole in his ass though so was still a trainee grade years and years later. Ordinarily you’d expect to move up after a year or 2. I have no idea why he stayed there but it appears that a first from Oxford didn’t help with drive, ambition or anything else much really. He got made redundant in the end.
  11. PS I love this forum - from Kwikstage to cancer in about a dozen posts!
  12. I prefer to read the medical evidence rather than rely on the daily fail lol but I have heard of people with myeloma who have had success with curcumin I just hadn’t researched it. I was talking about solid tumours rather than blood malignancies TBH. However she took 8g of curcumin a day as I mentioned above with absorption aided by bioperine. The reason why she was worthy of a BMJ report is that she abandoned all conventional treatment whereas most people don’t so it’s difficult to ascertain whether the supplement has made a difference. It still only works for some people however, definitely not all, in the same way that NICE approved immunotherapy drugs might work for around 1 in 5 people. http://casereports.bmj.com/content/2017/bcr-2016-218148.full
  13. It’s not a cure for cancer, but there is some evidence that it can slow down new growth in some people and for some cancers. As with most new treatments clinical trials are underway to identify whether that’s the case. https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/treatment/clinical-trials/intervention/curcumin The issue with taking turmeric or the chemical within it, curcumin, is the very low bioavailability, so mostly you take in curcumin as a supplement and it comes out without much of it being absorbed. Things like oil and bioperine can help with absorption. You still need curcumin in a massive dose to help with cancer however, so 8g a day, whilst a typical highly concentrated curcumin supplement contains 5000mg so you need 16 of them a day to get to what is thought to be the optimum dose. Not a cheap thing to try. I don’t have a complete lack of faith in supplements. Many people can be deficient in various vitamins and minerals, iron is a good and common example, and require top up via supplement. And not all herbal remedies are quackery, think foxglove and opium poppies. The issue with my knee is that there is a hole in my meniscus that he couldn’t fix via the arthroscopy. He thought that trimming the tear might help it to glide over the joint rather than catching but it doesn’t (at the mo anyway). It hurts when I move it when lying in bed so not even weight bearing. I doubt a supplement in the world will fix that and I don’t like taking regular painkillers. As with all health issues it helps to know what’s causing the issue so that it can be managed accordingly. Treating the wrong thing because you have made an assumption about what is wrong is never helpful.
  14. Jack Nicholson is clearly suffering from multiple personality disorder as on other days he does this
  15. You should never judge someone by your own standards @Onoff
  16. I had physio for 5 months before the op. I'm sure it helped afterwards but the shooting pain in the actual knee doesn't help. That seems to be getting worse rather than better unfortunately and sadly the op didn't actually fix the main problem so my consultant says he's not surprised that the pain is there still. 3 months is D day apparently so still a bit to go to see if it will get better. Did Turmeric and high dose curcumin for about a year along with Omega 3 and about half a dozen other joint related things but I never noticed any difference sadly. Might start taking them again - can't make it any worse I guess.
  17. I have a similar issue with my knee. 7 weeks post op and it’s as bad as ever. If you find any miracle cures let me know! I’ve tried most of the whacky things and none of them do jack! Might help if I was a believer of the weird and wonderful .
  18. Thanks! The weight is the thing that I struggle with mostly I think as I can hold the main bit in my left hand but have to support the weight of it and keep it steady with my right hand under the chuck that means that I don’t have a hand free for anything else. I think I might order these and see. I can always return them when I next go near a Screwfix if they don’t suit.
  19. One day everything will click into place.
  20. Yeah well what's an extra tenner in the great scheme of things anyway. Don't forget you need to make it @pocster handstand proof though .
  21. Can you use No More Ply adhesive? Think we used that somewhere. I've no idea if it's cheaper though.
  22. Why do you think the warranty is only 12 months if the full description says 7 years? It’s moot anyway as there is an expectation that this sort of item should last much longer than 12 months and evidence of it being sold with a 7 year warranty is good evidence of that (if indeed you need to take further action). Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.
  23. Looks like both the brand and the supplier are part of the TP group? Not a tin pot affair by any means so hopefully you will get somewhere with addressing this.
  24. Hopefully the supplier will sort for you but just a few things to note re your rights: Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015: Less than 30 days you can return the goods for a full refund Less than 6 months the onus is on the supplier to prove the fault wasn't there when you bought it. The supplier can attempt to have it repaired and if that is unsuccessful they have to refund. Over 6 months you are still covered but the onus is on you to prove that it was inherently faulty. So you will need to gather evidence. Photos of the current status of your heating system (ie none) may assist, and gather as much evidence as you can such as where it has been stored since purchase etc. The supplier may require you to get a professional report I guess. Do you still have the receipt, copy of the ad etc? How did you pay? If by credit card you may be covered by a Section 75 refund although this shouldn't be your first port of call. Your warranty will be with the manufacturer I imagine, ie the brand name on the item, so if not one and the same I would contact them pretty swiftly also if it's only for 12 months although there should be an expectation that this sort of item lasts much longer than a year, even if it had been used!
  25. This is bad, and deep down you know this and that one day it will be used in a much more effective way than a simple nag. So be a good boy now and trot along and do it without being asked. You could be in the good books for a few milliseconds too
