I have no idea what my house is TBH. I've never been asked for it.

Disposable shower cap is your friend . Appropriated from a hotel.

Interestingly a friend has just viewed a house and sent me the link this morning. It has an ASHP and an energy score of 83. I mentioned this and she ignored that and said that it was smaller than the last house they offered on and she wasn’t sure about the location so clearly an ASHP wasn’t worthy of a mention in her eyes lol. I might ask her directly if that is something that they would find attractive in a house or not. Is RHI transferable? Not that I’m thinking of an MSC install however, just curious. https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-73377239.html

But only if you see it replacing the boiler surely? My intention was for an ASHP to ‘help’ not completely replace the boiler. I’m not sure the difference in cost between a smaller one and a larger one stacks up TBH and a larger one will cost more to run so if it’s oversized surely that’s wasteful? How do I find out how much energy they take to run? So for a 9kw one for example as that’s the one @readiescards has bought from the bay.

Thanks. I haven’t heard of MEK being used before. All of the manicurists removing polish from UV or LED cured polish use pure acetone. It doesn’t seem to come off if it’s diluted with anything and doesn’t come off with acetone free nail polish removers. In fact you can paint a standard polish on top and then remove it with acetone free without affecting the cured polish. I’ve no idea what’s in acetone free remover TBH. It’s pretty harsh stuff but it’s only once every 4 weeks as the polish bonds to the nail. Might try to get a small bottle of MEK and see if it works if it’s kinder. -

I’ve got acetone here if you need it as it’s the only thing that will remove my LED cured nail polish ? I buy online, a litre bottle at a time. 5l will clearly be more cost effective but I’m not sure how long it can be stored for and don’t use it for anything else. Any other uses apart from removing polymer nail polishes and half cured foam? -
electricity connections Extortionate price

The most exciting time of the build IMO. Enjoy. -
Yes but you probably ended up with a bargain eventually despite the time wasted. That new one would be way more than 455 I’m sure.

Lol, sadly I need a rather larger pension so that I can keep adding to my collection . Whoever says you spend less in retirement needs their head examined. More time available to spend = more spend in my view!

Report back please! How much was the carriage?

Has @readiescards installed his and how is it performing?

So, it's hard to know how long I will be here for. Something between 3 and 5 years I expect, but who really knows. Life changes in an instant as I know only too well. I intend to sell up when I retire from work but having a hard time getting my head around going from a fairly decent salary to no salary overnight.Just feels surreal TBH. Market conditions aren't great here TBH. Prices in Scotland don't seem to be on the up and up as in other areas, and in general houses take a fair time to sell here. There is a stack of house building going on about 8 miles closer to Edinburgh. Largish detached mainstream builder estates on mains gas and nearer to civilisation. My house is the sort that would need the right buyer to come along really given its size and location. Whether all of that supports installing an ASHP I'm not sure. If I could demonstrate that the bills were fairly low then maybe simply from a selling point rather than a personal money saving feature. .

Que? You’re painting your ceiling with cider Use Diamond Matt and it will compensate for many evils. I don’t even think I could make a ceiling look bad with Diamond Matt!

Plastering Moisture Resistant Plasterboard

I used to love Diamond White once upon a time. Completely sober to oblivion for about 50p back in the day. Used to team that with Pernod on the rocks with the strangely opaque look. When I became more sophisticated (not!) I hit the voddy trail instead . You finished that bloody painting yet? -

Ha ha! Well she won’t be walking on for long if it does the trick and you sell quickly . Tell her if she walks up and down on it for hours it will reduce the crunchiness -

I’m not even going to start describing mine, suffice to say don’t go there!! -
It was a long time ago that I used them so I would ask what the quote includes, ie full design, structural engineer etc etc and as @ultramods says look at the U values. Our quote from Scotframe included all windows and doors (although we sourced them elsewhere in the end), skirting, coving, OSB for sarking, internal doors, and every nut, bolt and screw for the TF construction pretty much. We needed to add the insulation for the floor however. You need to get the full specs to compare really as they may not be like for like.
-
Has Scotframe really proposed SIPS? I thought they generally proposed a hybrid timber frame / SIPSesque option in the form of a closed panel system. I used Scotframe for my build and had a positive experience with them albeit they weren’t probably the cheapest but I saved on architect fees, Structual Engineer fees, and their oversight de risked the project for us as novice self builders.

In the village and surrounding area yes. There is gas 5 or so miles away. Most people here seem to use oil or LPG rather than electric though. I have used circa 6280 kw last year on heating only (not DHW) worked out very roughly based on the daily average in the quarter where I never use heating and concluding that anything over and above that in the other quarters is for heating. That equates to £571 excluding standing charge as I have to pay that anyway. However, that was with the heating only running in a single (albeit large) room, and it not working optimally. What the heating costs will be this winter now that I can actually heat more of the house I have no idea but in theory it could be more hence I’m considering an ASHP but need to weigh up the cost vs the ROI. I think it might be scarily expensive if someone tried to heat the whole house and whilst I’m not looking to do that I imagine an ASHP might help bring that down. Not sure I want to pay for others to have cheaper heating bills in the future though

In project terms it’s only slippage (don’t fall off the roof mind ) against an arbitrary deadline. Treat procrastination as a task when you set your deadline, add a healthy amount, then double it, and you might be close to the date you complete your phase. No one ever complained or felt guilty about completing a task ahead of plan, but we always feel bad (or are made to feel bad) for missing a planned milestone.

Economy 2000, but yes similar, and a non working (but hope to get working) ST system. Just not sure about the ASHP investment given that I don’t intend to stay here forever.
