  1. This. Available in white and over paintable. http://www.rust.co.uk/em-121-epoxy-rust-proofing-chassis-paint/c28117/ Given its buried in render it wont last forever, but a lot longer than anything else i could think of.
  2. That wasn't quite what i had in mind! Like Jeremy, our workshop used to one that dripped oil in. I was only brave using petrol a coule of times!!
  3. If you can smell it, think what its doing to you? Wood burner in the new gaff has never been used by us, nor will it be. I need something in the space though. Oil fired Looky likely burners seem thin on the ground...........................
  4. What did you do for foundations? Are they 1 metre cubes?
  5. Fortunately its not a combi. Hot water tank right next to bathroom. Takes seconds..
  6. There is another pipe coming out of the house near the boiler which drips water sometimes,. Im assuming some other condensate of some sort? Not really sure. Thats going on the floor next to the foundations too. Just another reason to move it. Sadly no pics yet
  7. Ok, thats an interesting update. No cause for alarm then. Nice Mclaren P1 should cover it then
  8. Errr, yes they are. Included in the 2040 ban.
  9. To be fair, that you havn't run out of charge is no surprise. But you are not "mr normal" and i mean that in the nicest possible way. Mr normals manage to run out of petrol never mind battery charge. Hear what you say about it being suitable for 90% of journeys. True, But what about the other 10%. They still need to be made. Clearly having 2 cars is a solution, but i dont think a good chunk of the population having 2 cars is any kind of answer. Dont buy a french car. It cant end well!!!! Why is the Leaf so ugly. Same reason that so many "eco house type projects" such as a new or innovative build system seem to insist on looking like they landed from another planet, when really, the bulk of he buying public want a house that looks like a house is expected to look like. I dont see driving 200 miles as undesirable. Though actual time spent would be a better measure. Accepted. Indeed, bizarre as it might seem, i sometimes find myself trying to imagine the consequences of so much of the developing technology. Stuff will happen that we cant even imagine. In the meantime with cars, i'll wait until a truly viable system exists that meets my needs. Sadly, i have to agree with most of that! Yep! Better put than i did up there ^^^^ Its about the 10% for me.
  10. You mean, just like we do now? Not sure if you say this in jest or are serious?
  11. Agree, with myself too, that range is still a problem. Maybe some clever people are working on a 3 minute re-charge, but unless thats achievable, limitations on use exist. Currently, none exist on my current car (assuming a petrol station is open of course). Therfore not to be able to go where i want without considerable planning and inconvenience doesn't look like a great idea. Id love to see some statistics on how many people run out of charge. Once electric cars become more widespread and used by normal people, rather than, as clarkson would no doubt put it, "electric car enthusiasts", i suspect this will be a common problem. Cold dark nights stuck in traffic jams. Genuine question for those with cars, how much of a hit does range take if you run the heater or air con when its cold or hot? ie zero degress or on a 30C day? Ref your last question, kill the occupants. No other answer will be acceptable. Maybe this will be the aftermarket tuning upgrade in future. Adjust the cars parameters to look after you? Going to get complicated.
  12. Im inclined to agree with some on here. Its just noise from government. What they say or do will have no effect on what happens. However, i still cant see electric cars as the long term answer. Charging time and somewhere to charge it leads me to believe it will simply be a transistional phase to something else that offers the flexibility and ease of use we currently have. Going backwards in our ability to use a vehicle is not progress, nor likely to be tolerated. Regarding the old car issue, arguably they will all be banned long before this. The governments consultation refers to the problems we are likely to face when self driving cars and human driven cars share the roads. However it also refers to a time when this problem will be solved - because ALL cars will be self driving. Given that trult self driving cars should exist by 2030, look forward to having your ability to drive taken away.
  13. 13 meters you say? Now we are talking
  14. No pics yet But ive found 2 pipes coming out draining onto the floor. Dark now, but hopefully tommorow!
  15. THanks Nick. yes, pipes would be underground. Boiler , well, whole installation is only three years old, but can't say I've seen a condensate drain? but there is sort of condensate drain coming out of the side of the house? can't say I really understand it? Was also planning to move the oil tank as that's in the way of the garage! BUt in principle it's do-able then. Was just worried I was missing something obvious. I shall take a pic of the boiler this weekend and post it here. Hopefully will make more sense
  16. Ok gang. Som guidance required if possible please? At my new gaff, the boiler is an oil fired Wocester of some sort planted next to the house. This has a couple of downsides. First one is, if you have the bathroom window open you get the exhaust fumes coming in. The other is, it properly in the way of my driveway widening plan! There is plenty of space on however in the corner about 15 feet from the house. What are the downsides of moving it that ive not thought of. And assuming i insulate the pies and run the underground, how much will it really affect the efficiency? Anyone done similar?
  17. Bought it in Oz in 2003. Just taken delivery of my 5th one in a row
  18. If my memory serves, about £4k, but i fitted it myself
  19. We should? Are you local - as in near by, not the other type of local.............
  20. Picture, thousand words and all that.................
  21. Or as i did, a side sliding door. Best of both worlds, though it has to be said, a more expensive route.
  22. Ive been going round this loop. From my experience, the smaller players cant support the installation of their product. So you always end up being offered a Klargester unit, even though your initial enquiry was for something else entirely! The Vortex in particular was one i looked at as mine is serving 2x 4 bed houses with a total of 4 people living there, 2 of them almost part time. Trying to get installation, frankly was a joke. Or rather, simply impossible. And its not like im stuck out on a limb like some of you guys, im in the home counties!!!
  23. The argument is sound. Quite how you would, im not sure. If you did, and they were independant, and assuming they dont adopt a "council" type approach of just making life difficult for the sake of it, house building in this country will slow right down as there simply isn't the skill and resource to make it happen. Or to find enough people of knowledge to inspect. The standard of work is so poor you will have more inspectors than workers! Absolutely agree. I have had the discussion numerous times that its the next PPi waiting to happen, though i thought it would become an issue off the back of poor modern houses, and the slowly growing news on the subject. This incident just supercharged the whole issue.
  24. true, but how is this any different from any other time? Cost has always been a factor when looking to get work done, now or 50 years ago.
