Efficiency level of MVHR?
SteamyTea replied to Ferdinand's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
Boats have high humidity inside them, and most of the time outside of them. So the enthrapy calculations don't count for much. The biggest problem with a narrowboat, thermally, is the dreadful surface area to volume ratio. And that 0.3m of it is underwater. And what is above water is in the wind. But the upside is that a small Water to Water Heat Pump could get a very high CoP. Side and roof mounted PV will also reduce over heating if you can dump the excess energy somewhere. One of the Birmingham Universities had a solar powered narrowboat as a project a decade ago. A bit of googling seems to only show their latest hydrogen project. Hydrogen is hopium. -
Justifying the cost of stupidly expensive toasters

Think cars have had quite strict salvaging rules for decades now. Daihatsu may be a bit different. -
These days, flats are designed to stop smoke coming in if there is a fire. This is why Grenville residence where told to stay in their flats. If you are going to do a major refurbishment, it may be worth looking up the latest regulations regarding fires in flats. I have noticed my neighbour has taken up smoking, that leaves just one non smoker out if the 6 houses where I am.

A bolt always clamps, a screw does not always clamp. The bolt/screw arguement will go on for every, untill people learn what a bolt is for.

That makes them bolts.

Disabling Weather Comp during mid winter?

Yes, way too much 'choice'. Do you mean 9p? I assume this is monthly billing by direct debit. -
One for @nod I think. My Mother's house was finished internally with sand/cement instead of plaster. It was very hard wearing, only one crack that I can remember and that was where a door was removed and a larger opening made.

New build "what if / what's that " Anxiety

Back in '82 I lived in a static next to Poole Marines base. Helicopters and artics 24/7 once the Argies kicked off. Slept through the lot. -
Something I would like to spend some time on. It is amazing the number of 'miner's cottages' down here. Most have been built after the major mines closed 150 years ago. I think most are old agricultural worker's homes. But no point in letting the truth get in the way of a good romantic story. Mining is big business down here, and we don't have to take anything out the ground anymore. Much cleaner. My Mother lived in a Derbyshire mining community and the architecture is identical, only real difference is the materials used. Almost as if there was one design and it was just stamped out across the land.
