  1. Except where the beams/joist are sitting on the structural external wall.
  2. An environmental disaster, only marginally better than doing nothing. Not going to be cheap either, and will be abused by many sales orientated installers. If some are really 'hydrogen ready' then that is environmentally worse than burning natural gas. The only real solutions are to raise the price of energy though carbon taxes and put a supplementary tax on house sales based on kWh.m-2.year-1 usage (that data is easy enough to come by). There is more than enough free equity in the property market to either thermally upgrade or take a hit on the selling price.
  3. I was at school with Roger Hodgson's little brother. Roger used to pick him on in his Jaaaag.
  4. We will try to convince you that you only need electricity. Depending on what free time you have while you are looking for a plot, you could go down the local technical college and see what courses they are running.
  5. Not very thermally efficiency, then you have the condensation risks to consider and mitigate.
  6. Food should be oven ready, the idea of cooking it outside, on uncontrollable fire, fuelled by soot, is just silly. Nearly everything I cook in our restaurant goes in the oven.
  7. I think I can (EDF). I usually download the daily files (usage and price) then spreadsheet them.
  8. Taking a standard rate of 20p/kWh and a simple E7 of 30p and 12p/kWh If you use 15 kWh/day then: 15 kWh x £0.2 = £3 15 kWh x ((£0.3 + £0.12)/2) = £3.15 But if 2/3rd is in the cheap rate, and that should be easy to achieve, then: (5 kWh x £0.3) + (10 kWh x £0.12) = £2.7 Now you have to put your own numbers in, which you should be able to get from a Smart meter as most do half our sampling. Or create some scenarios in a spreadsheet and shake the numbers out.
  9. When working out the price of ToU tariffs, you cannot just add up the difference rates and divide by the number of rates. You need to use a weighted average as the consumption in each time slot becomes very important.
  10. Welcome. Are you going to be 'hands on' or just pay for everything. Maybe somewhere in-between.
  11. No images are showing, so no comment.
  12. Why not fit a trace heater on the bottom of each module. Generally we don't have a lot of snow, but for the few quid it costs, and the probability that it will get rid of the snow, may be worthwhile.
  13. Cool.
  14. TL:DR If you cook the flue too much i.e close to room temperature, they stop work. We used Asbestolux behind and above our saunas. Worked great, until it exploded.
  15. Welcome. Confessing.
  16. " i discovered it had been set to a particular schedule for those out at work all day - ie on for a couple of house in the morning, low during the day, warmer for the evening and off at night" So the system was not commissioned at all. Do these installers know how to set up heat pump systems.
  17. That is because you are a bear
  18. Well as it has AI, yes. Likes green people. This is @Pocster taking a walk in the woods, without a dog. Not sure what he expects to find.
  19. So only recognizes your black and white friends. Or the hot ones.
  20. Does it allow burglars to sneak around in the dark as they are not on your friends list?
  21. I put in a CF into our outside light at work, it lasted about 7 years. Then put an LED one in, that has lasted about 8 years now. I no longer work at that place.
  22. MEK is what is used to weld acrylics.
  23. 1 tog = R-value 0.1 m2.K.W-1 U-value = 1/R
  24. Trying to cut though the BS mainly.
