Wowsers...not a normal looking roof frame...nothing holding the roof up?

Guess the wallplate is bombproof and everything compresses the ridge beam?

Looks smashing ?

Is it all going to be open up top or used as storage space...with stairs etc?

The ceiling joists and the rafters will form a truss in themselves.

 

Looks amazing, and no worries about it blowing away or collapsing under a bit of snowfall! Puts my garage to shame (I live in fear of both these events...)

Hi @Onoff the right hand section will form an enclosed shed. The middle section will be the car port itself and the final 3rd, about 1000mm will be the log store. Running across the entire front will be a 1000mm covered walk way. Basically allows us to exit the shed and car without getting rained on. The upper space will remain open. No intention to use as storage or additional accommodation - the budget just wouldn't stretch that far!!

Thanks @Crofter you have explained it well and also reassured me in the process!! I just told the company what I was after and they drew it all up - a complete design, manufacture and installation package. And yes, I don't think it will be going anywhere soon!

Looks good. If you plan to treat the oak I recommend Osmo UV protection oil rather than Danish.

Thanks @Temp  I was going to let the oak frame weather naturally as with the larch cladding. Should go a lovely silver / grey in time.

Looks great. 

This oak framed garage is close to my notion of a perfect garage and going for a timber framed garage would kick start my self build while waiting for a competent brickie team to become available.

• Was there a discussion about mounting the main vertical supports on special pad stones?
• What is the roof covering? I ask because I would like an open roof structure but I am conscious that in the absence of regular spaced joists the roof covering weight is important.

Hi @epsilonGreedy Yes the "pad stones" were requested by the Oak frame manufacturer - I would have preferred stone but time beat my decision making / sourcing options, so we tied them in with the dwarf walling. They were not without their issues but after some "correction" those issues were resolved. As for the roofing, sarking has been installed - this is very much a Scottish thing and then today as it happens, the membrane went on ahead of the slates, which will go on tomorrow.

Hi @Redoctober- just opening this up again as I’m planning something similar for you garage. What is the footprint of this build? Did you use 8” posts too?

Hi @Rishard- sorry for the tardy response but yes the uprights are 8" - the actual footprint of the structure is 7m x 6m - 

It is 7 m across the front and then 6 m deep - the shed within, is set back a metre allowing for weather protection and is 5 m deep.

@Rishard Here is a fairly up to date photo of it upon completion - you should see the shed and also down the side of the car, we use that space for log storage.

I really like this! The covered walkway is a nice touch also. I’m planning something similar with a useable storage space above.
