Dan1983 Posted July 3, 2025 Author Posted July 3, 2025 One last thing we may do is add a triangular cut of oak sleeper as the levels drop down to soften the look of the RSJ What do others think?
Dan1983 Posted August 21, 2025 Author Posted August 21, 2025 Been away for a week but guys are cracking on with the patio and doing a great job! Decided on offset bond rather than brick bond, really pleased with it. My choice to break bond behind the garage as won’t be seen and saves me some slabs/ losing more of the garden to keep bond (retaining wall would have to have been further back) Gone for mid grey grout and will use a similar colour for the decorative stones between slabs and sleepers (stones as allows sleepers to move a little and didn’t want any cuts along the back edge! 1
Dan1983 Posted August 22, 2025 Author Posted August 22, 2025 Done with the laying now, grout next week One final cut to make down the side by the looks of it please with the steps also!
Dan1983 Posted September 6, 2025 Author Posted September 6, 2025 All finished a while ago Pleased with it all, the flow point ultrascape does seem patchy in a few areas but had heavy rain a couple of hours after final section was complete so not sure if that was the cause 1
gaz_moose Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 that looks fantastic. did you try a triangle cut to soften the stepdown of the sleeper wall? Mine is literally the same and i was thinking of doing the same thing. I'd bought 19 2.4m oak sleepers and they accidently sent me 24 so was tempted to experiment.
Dan1983 Posted September 6, 2025 Author Posted September 6, 2025 (edited) Not yet Gaz but we are going to do it Few bits to finish it off really -Need the decorative stone between slabs and sleepers -New socket/ control box wired in to control lights -Top soil and about 50 lavenders for planters plus some turf to blend lawn in (guessing I need to crack on with this now or leave it until spring) Edited September 6, 2025 by Dan1983
gaz_moose Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 Those beds full of lavender will look smart. Id probably chuck a load of daffodil / snow drop bulbs in too so you get a bit of colour in jan/March before your lavender wakes up in May. post a picture if you get round to the triangle bits.
Andehh Posted September 7, 2025 Posted September 7, 2025 That does look good, we could have done better with our oak sleeper retaining wall, but hindsight is wonderful! 1
Dan1983 Posted Friday at 21:10 Author Posted Friday at 21:10 Finally got the remote control power supply installed yesterday 3 spare outlets now for lamp post and garage up lighters Spot lights in the sleepers turned out well 2
Nickfromwales Posted Saturday at 11:35 Posted Saturday at 11:35 Makes the house feel much bigger when there’s usable outdoor space such as this. Looks a million dollars and very neat work. Did you clad the steels with wood / other?

Where did you get your slabs from? Limestone?
Dan1983 Posted Saturday at 14:24 Author Posted Saturday at 14:24 Nick, kept the steels exposed as was the look we wanted Still need to find a company to sort the triangular cuts as local places saying job is too small Matt, yes they are limestone from forest stone https://www.foreststone.uk/product/blissford-tumbled-limestone-paving/ 1 1

We have much the same in mind at a change in level and we have a stack of harvested sleepers from previous agricultural use. I am inspired by the lighting and wondering if it can be low voltage. A length of armoured cable and stacks of connections is rather daunting. I don't mind the steel being visible, using the 'display the structure' principle. I guess the other option would be a vertical piece of sleeper tucked into the web. The steels and sleepers align perfectly. Beautifully done.
Dan1983 Posted Saturday at 16:17 Author Posted Saturday at 16:17 Yes wiring is all low voltage, it comes with pre made wiring loom and you can run 20 spots per feed Cabling was a bit tight on the corners but managed to space it all evenly https://www.saxbytrade.com/products/exterior/decking 2
