Concealed shower install with fixed head and hand set - DRENCH VS GROHE?

Recommended Posts

Looking to fit a concealed thermostatic valve set with handset and fixed ceiling shower head. I was looking at Grohe but I may have to compromise on a cheaper brand like Drench (never come across them tbh) who give a 15yr guarantee on the valve (10yrs on shower arm and head).  Anyone has experience of them? I'm spending a fortune on Schluter wet room so looking to reign in the spend where I can.

vs

TBH, I don't like the Grohe designs.

Ideally what me/the boss wants:

  • No loss in pressure if someone flushes the toilet
  • Looks good and is child-proof
  • Water saving option/feature 'economy mode' (guess that could be another add on product I could buy - restrict flow and duration?)
  • Something that lasts at least 10yrs!
  • Controls that are easy to use (I really dont want to be getting in the shower with the MIL! to show her how to turn the temp up)

Will be connected to Sunamp Uniq units and I have at least 6 bar pressure with decent flow rate.

Hudson Reed? I found this mixer and posted up asking @Nickfromwales,  got the OK. @ProDave at least on here has his in fitted and working. Mixer came from British Bathrooms. Rainfall head from Wayfair and sliding rail / handset from British Bathrooms again. All Hudson Reed. 20 yr g'tee I think.

Yes I have that shower (and a second one ready to fit when we do the en-suite.

But last time I checked when someone else was asking recently, the price from BBC had risen substantially.

I think I paid £80 or 90 for mine? Ones with square plates cheaper than the radiused ends. Random link:

Thanks gents! @Onoff - you've finally completed your bathroom? :P  Looking good! Also didn't know the BBC had diversified into showers. Discount with valid TV licence?

Wife's just come home and changed her shower wishes.?

Hoping I can at least slip this in as replacement hand held: https://www.savewatersavemoney.co.uk/products/view/570/mira-eco-shower-head-chrome.html Anyone used these? Daughter tends to spend ages washing her hair. This is advertised to reduce that down to 7L/min

Part numbers:

Rail/handset:

This mixer:

Rainfall head:

It wasn't this HR one but v.similar and at the time a real steal. Nearest I can find (cheap):

https://www.bellabathrooms.co.uk/hudson-reed-round-fixed-shower-head-300mm-diameter.html?

Then the ceiling drop arm. HR again. Will try and find the part numbers for the arm and  rainfall shower head.

Edit: Hudson Reed AR15 is my ceiling drop arm.

Yup, had one of these for years. Great head, easy to clean etc. On our electric shower there's a barely-noticeable difference between full and eco, and SWMBO likes the piercing central setting for rinsing...

I think @Hecateh went Hudson Reed too?

I got the Hudson Reid diverter and it's great( - shame the plumbers weren't) it went up £50 between deciding on it and buying it but 'shrugs'

The rest isn't Hudson Reid.

Used British Bathrooms for most stuff but not the greatest experience.

Delivery took 2 weeks longer than promised and whenever I phoned I got stock answers without anyone looking up the specific order

AND I have asked for an invoice 5 times and still haven't received one.  If they don't send it I will end up without my 20% Vat reclaim

Tell them HMRC is going to contact them if they don’t issue the VAT invoice and this is the final time of asking before you ask HMRC to proceed. Put that in writing and send by letter.

And I think you can complain to HMRC actually.

Thanks I'll do that.  It's a few months since I asked since I got caught up in other things (as yu know).  But that invoice is worth a lot to me

I can honestly say the only issue I had with British Bathrooms was a delay on one item I ordered that I had to chase.

@Hecateh, pm me a copy of your order or similar and I'll email and give them a rocket saying I've recommended them to you and others and how embarrassing it is etc ref their poor service.
