Between rafter insulation: tips, gottchas, if I were you I'd

Nice warm weekend ahead. Perfect for fitting insulation between rafters. We need to infill with 200mm of Balytherm.

Before I do so, anyone got any tips?

So far I have been told to 

• cut the sheets with a sharpened trowel or scraper (to avoid dust)
• be sure to 'tie on' while waltzing around on the rafters
• put a couple of temporary battens under the rafters and push the insulation down to them from outside (above)
• foam round the edges of each rafter space, not each sheet (two lots of 100mm)

 

Then there's a BBQ on Monday evening, by when I hope the job will be finished. Everyone welcome.

For trimming gun foam I use an old bread knife.

im with mr punter, at least we always do it after the felt and battens are on, 

carrying big light 8x4 sheets around on a roof just sounds dangerous, even if you are tied on

as for cutting i use this and a stiff hand saw, (I have never got on with the proper insulations saws)

Using up the PIR offcuts recently that have sat in the stable and shed for ages and I've not suffered from the streaming eyes. Maybe it's "de-gassed" over time?

Its the absolute pits man, i will be so glad when i am done with this stuff..... if i could have foreseen how horrid using this stuff was before i got commited i would have definatly gone another way. I always wear a propper PPE but its still hell.
