Steel Performance Certificate

Hi

Had building control out to do to sign off my house and one of the things he asked for was the steel performance certificate.  The issue is I do not have this and the company that supplied the steel do not have the records now as it has been over 5 years since the kit builder purchased it.  The company that purchased it have now went into liquidation and disappeared.

 

I have spoken to building control and they are not sure of a way around the issue,  also have mailed my architect and they are not sure either.

 

Has anyone come across something like this and how to rectify the problem.

Make one up.

 

Failing that, who was the project manager and who were their insurer.

A letter from whoever saw it being built, ie SE or Arch, saying that it isn't usual to require this and it was 5 years ago  but from visual inspection at the time this was industry standard material.

Bco can file that.

Ah, can you post an exact copy of the communication you received from BC?

 

Then tell us a bit about the conversation you had with BC. 

 

I come across this often but you are not providing the worts and all back ground.

Got it sorted now went in to steel merchant and when speaking to the face to face they were able to sort it and provide paper work 

 

There is nothing else to add the building inspector came out for final inspection and the only thing that we could not provide was the steel performance certificate that he asked for.

I'm intrigued though. I've never been asked for one in hundreds of projects.

Was it a keen young bco?

No he was in late 50s the Steel company said it is a new rule after 2023

There was a time when dubious quality was being imported so it makes sense.

How can a new rule in 2023 apply to Steels that are 5 years old, and potentially on a build that started pre 2023 ?

New building regs are not and cannot be retrospective.

Agree with @Spinny if the rule was not around until 2023 your steel was already in.  Point this out to BC.  You can't comply with rules that did not exist at the time.
