Also worth noting is that they're allowing one per socket circuit, so most houses can easily have 1600W of generation for under £1k (once they update g98).

John's copy/paste above says 800W per household. Where have you seen it per circuit?

I think the bigger issue is the electricians industry bodies not wanting something where electricians aren't needed. I am fairly sure they would mandate only qualified electricians are legally allowed to plug or unplug devices if they could.

I think this is already a thing with bigger equipment (commercial) with the use of commando style plugs being discouraged or outright prohibitied (can't remember) when they used to be the norm.

IIRC, the issue with unidirectional RCD/rcbo only occured if the inverter continued to feed power when the grid goes down -which shouldn't happen (as has been pointed out)

And then the problem resulting from that situation is that the RCD/rcbo is damaged - which would result in a dead circuit and the home owner getting it replaced with a bidirectional one

The industry bodies don’t much care whether or not you’re an electrician. Only that you pay good money every year to have their little badge.

Not the 300 quid they were talking about.

Gotta milk the overexcited first adopters before the competition forces lower prices.

That's probably about the wholesale cost, so a developer might get that and include one in every new house.

Have now had a look at Leroy Merlin, the B and Q of France and Spain. E449 incl vat. and that seems to be complete

440Wp.

Easy to find 930W for £499 on eBay. No link as I've no idea if they're UK approved. I'm sure there'll be plenty of questionable offerings at low prices soon enough

I guess 440W is pretty useful near the Med, but not so great here, in winter certainly.

It surprised me that there were 4 panels, so maybe that's old tech.

Leroy is not the place for great value, but we'll know it is mainstream when the supermarkets sell them.

I'm not comfortable buying that sort of thing on Ebay.
