Starlink loose end on wire.

For whatever reason, the terminal has been cut off the starlink mast, or extended with a wire.

So we just have this bare cable.

Any advice on how to fix a usb plug on it?

 

I can try harder on focus if necessary.

If it's a recent ish model I thought the cable was basically an ethernet cable. So you can get normal rj45 connectors and crimp them on and then get a back to back coupler.

So this? I find it hard to believe this is so cheap. That's for 10! They are half that price each by the hundred.

 

Yes it's recent and was working well until someone decided to cut the end off.

(That we have cameras  is disliked by some. Perhaps that's why it's been accidentally damaged and no rush to resolve. So it has to be diy.)

 

Do the wires just push in? I expect the colour positions are easy to research.Such tiny wires though: I can see me losing some copper along with the plastic.

Is it a stanley knife or wire stripper job?

You need a proper crimp tool, and preferably a tester and a bit of a knack for small fiddly things.

 

Easier to check out the other end, check it’s a standard LAN cable (Google?) and replace the whole thing.

 

Can recommend the right bits though if you want to try yourself.

 

Loads of videos on youtube on how to crimp cat5/6. It’s a useful skill.

If it is CAT5/6, you need something like these:

I need easy.

The cable  is built into the wall and it's lucky that one person thought to make it accessible at all.

 

Btw I think the cameras perhaps won us 20 mins production per day. "Of course we trust you  but it is security."

Couple of notes:

1. If this is outside then you'll need to find a waterproof enclousure for the coupler (might be able to find purpose built cable joint - but it needs to maintain the signal integrity)

 

2. If just making one or two cables you can get away without the crimp tool by using a flat bladed screwdriver on each of the pins and the cable restraint clip. But if you want easy get the tool (they aren't expensive)

 

3. Starlink will provide a new cable if you prefer (likely at a cost but you might be lucky)

Easiest/cheapest would be a nerdy teenager who has terminated CAT5 cable before 😀.

Can you strip that cable back a bit so we can see the cores properly?

 

From the little I can see that does not look to be the standard colours for a cat 5/6 cable.  If it is a non standard termination I hope you still have the plug that was cut off to see how it was terminated.

So not a standard cable.  So you need to work out what colour goes where.

 

Do you have access to the good end of the cable, you could work it out from there with a bit of testing, or keep searching and see if someone has already worked it out and published it.

Think it depends which model you have.

 

If you are only repairing a break you only need to match the colours on both sides. The only real condition is to keep the each twisted pair near each other to maintain signal integrity.

True, but I read this as being near the end as he just wanted to fit a Cat 5/6 plug and plug it in?  @saveasteading More information needed
