Post and beam Posted yesterday at 11:20 Posted yesterday at 11:20 Hi Guys Our site slopes down away from the lane towards our house by about 90cm over 8 metres. Each side is also about 8 metres wide. So i have a wedge shape on either side of the central drive that i need to fill. Not certain if it needs to also be SUDs compliant. Filling it 100%with topsoil will probably be more expensive than necessary. If anyone has done similar how did you approach this please?
Oz07 Posted yesterday at 11:36 Posted yesterday at 11:36 How much do you need to fill? Have you dug out for your foundations yet? You can fill with whatever you dig out and cap with topsoil
gravelrash Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago local builders will probably be happy to fill your holes with rubble for free...Help with Suds as well.

Oz07 Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Well you're not going to fill that deep in topsoil. Either hardcore or some inert fill. Are you parking on it or is it just planting/garden? If you had a trustworthy grab driver who you knew they could lose some loads on your job. Wouldn't want any old rubbish though.

So you either scrape off the top soil, add the infill then replace top soil, or for less work put a lesser amount of infil then fresh topsoil on top.

So the question is, whats the cheapest SUDs compliant infill material?
saveasteading Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago 3 hours ago, Post and beam said: whats the cheapest SUDs compliant infill material? Crushed concrete. It usually comes with soil and other people's demo junk in it, but in your case a bit of earth won't matter.
FarmerN Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Surely depends on what you want to do with the land after, parking, patio, flower borders or what. Does it need drainage under before you fill, does the surface water get away OK after fill ? Recycled aggregate of some sort, from crushed brick , to sand?
Post and beam Posted 2 hours ago Author Posted 2 hours ago 11 minutes ago, FarmerN said: flower borders Or just a bit of grass. it'll be either side of the central drive. I cannot remember if planning require it to be SUDs compliant. So until i get it confirmed i am working on it needing to be. Sand would do the job unless there is a cheaper filler, hence my questions. Then a topping of topsoil.
JohnMo Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Top soil by the lorry load is around £35 tonne, if you are doing garden just do top soil. Any other purposes recycled concrete etc. or similar to bulk fill then hardcore all compacted.
JohnMo Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago 1 minute ago, Post and beam said: Sand would do the job unless there is a cheaper filler, Deep sand, doesn't give very good grass, as the nutrients and water just bleed away very quickly.
