kicks out a fair bit more heat than expected and does heat the room up to borderline uncomfortable if the UFH has already been on.

Does it do that with the TV turned off too?

Are there any "rules" to comply with if installing one. Or can anyone just stick it in there?

After Nick has removed my tennants gas fire, they want to put something in the "hole".

Personally the optimist seems a better idea...............................

???

The TV is probably churning out 400W, each person watching it 80W.

@daiking I have a bio ethanol kit used it inside a log burner in another house, wanted impression of logs burning without the pollution of real wood. It is a stainless steel reservoir that you put the fuel in, then hide with decorative bits etc.  They are all the same principle no matter what housing they are in.

This is what I would say about bio ethanol

There is a slight smell

There is not a huge amount of heat

It needs oxygen

It uses quite a bit of fuel and its not that cheap

They are real flames and could cause a fire if circumstances were right...unlikely of course but looking at worse case scenario

Personally I would be reluctant to put this in a TF house with MVHR unless you have provisioned for it, it will upset the MVHR balance.

If you are passing my way welcome to borrow my kit (have loads of fuel) to try it out.

I am only going to use mine outdoors in future...fire pit type set up.

@lizzie it’s main home will be a draughty corner pier between 2 large windows in our extension. Air tightness and mvhr is not a thing for us to worry about anyway.

i quite like them as well, but, a real fireplace is a must i think especially with ASHP. If the electricity goes off then we dont have an alternative form of heating. Too much of a risk for me.
