Backing board for CU - ply allowed?

Looking to put in place a board for easy/secure fixing of a CU. It’s a stone wall so much easier to have a wooden backing board.

are you allowed these days to use a wooden board?

Yes, I used MDF and painted with intumescent paint.

My electrician used mdf. No paint of any kind. No comment from his boss when he came to sign off or building control.

We used a fire retardant meter board, which is all that is supplied off the shelf.

Interesting, who knew? MDF with some 'retardant'? Cement board would be a thing, but the GRP kiosks I bought all came with thick-ish ply.

Probably made with a fire retardant resin.

MDF is really hard to set alight, as are some ply woods. Depends on the binder/adhesive used.

Most meter boxes seem to come with just a very thin bit of quite ordinary looking chipboard to fix to.
