Been tracking my generation. We've produced more this April than any other month in 2024. And by the end of today, it will be the third best month overall in the last four years. Good to see but the lack of rain is a tad worrying.

Our April is our best month since recording - about 20% better than any month last year.

But no rain, any rain we have had has been a short shower.

For us April and early May is best.  The leaves on the trees now are filling in and the shading then caps our generation for the rest of the summer.

Off to my boast shortly hopefully for another lovely day on the water.

Looks like the water meter bills will be lower as well after they impose hosepipe bans 🙂

For real, we have had quite a lot of rain.

In fact, when I went to Bodmin Moor to pick up some MVHR pipework on Easter Friday, it was torrential.

Most of the UK is running a lot drier than average. We should have had 310mm of rain by now, it's just 220mm so far. Still, a long way off drought conditions fortunately.

In March we had only 10mm total, and in April we made up for it and had 122mm, although most of that fell between the 15th and 19th. Our total for the year so far is 358mm, don't know how that compares to the average for North Cornwall.

I noticed a dropoff with the dust. About 10% loss. No way of cleaning ours. We did a fair bit of landscaping and gravel work so that didn't help with the dust levels.

Anyway, as of right now, May has been the most productive PV month ever (4 years) here at 691kWh. Just pipped June 2023 record. Another few days still to go so should get to 750kWh unless it's really dull.

About a quarter of my annual usages, thanks for sharing your energy, keep up the good work.

This last week has been the first time my ASHP has fired up for nearly 2 months, to consume 9kWh of electricity to heat some hot water.

For 6 weeks before that, the excess solar PV has done it all.

Half your luck.

I discovered on the weekend that the switch for the immersion element that should have been driven by our immersion diverter was switched off at some point, possibly by the handle of a vacuum cleaner leaning on it. Based on the diverter logs, it happened... sometime last year, since we've had zero diversion this calendar year!

*sigh*

Logging the readings from all my meters * and logging them  weekly on a spreadsheet is not a complete waste of time

* normal suppliers import meter, separate metering of energy used by ASHP for space heating and DHW heating, solar PV generation and my own export meter (to measure how much has escaped the self usage measures and gone "astray")

Keeping an eye on my readings showed that my consumption had risen significantly, was the fridge packing up.

New fridge (cheap ones seem to last a decade) and back down to around 4 kWh/day from 8 or 9 kWh/day.

Ouch. Through all that sunny weather too!

Worse, after weeks of blue skies, it turned cloudy and rained for several days as soon as I switched the immersion back on.
