WannabeBob Posted April 17, 2025 Posted April 17, 2025 Hey folks, me again! Our swimming pool foundation dig is going well so far.Ā Ā I was wondering if anyone can recommend any rebar suppliers that can do H10 (10mm) links/stirrups with a dimension of 90mm, ie shape code 51 where B=90mm Ā Our engineers have specified 90mm max for our lintels and piers as they want a 30mm coverage each side within our 150mm ICF concrete due to fire regulations.Ā Ā The suppliers Iāve checked with say they can only do down to 100mm, some even only going down to 110mm. I did get a quote from someone that said they could do it, at 20% more expensive and of dubious repute? I say dubious but really itās just that I havenāt seen them mentioned before, and hoping someone here might have personal recommendations instead.Ā Ā Iāve asked our engineers to come up with alternatives but Iām not very optimistic about them coming up with a timely solution⦠Iād rather get the bars supplied bent, but failing that how hard is it to bend my own bars for a pencil neck with absolutely no experience?Ā š Ā Thanks!
BadgerBodger Posted April 17, 2025 Posted April 17, 2025 Bending is easy enough with a bar bender but by the time youāve hired one and bought the bar youāre probably better paying the 20% premium on the few you wantā¦. Ā Iām not sure youād get a bar bender to manage bends in that short succession though.Ā

Ā Ā Ask for the suppliers CARES certificate. If it covers the relevant classes youāre looking for youāre good. Iām over generalising but for domestic work I wouldnāt dig much further than that. Itās a rabbit hole.Ā Ā On the bending sizes and radii, factory bent will give you the most options. On site you donāt really want to be making up complex bar bends!Ā 1
Russell griffiths Posted April 17, 2025 Posted April 17, 2025 Total construction supplies in the west mids did mine, they didnāt like it as it was small and hard to bend, but did them as I had had Ā£5000 worth of steel for my foundations, and they featured my foundations on their website.Ā give them a call.Ā could you drop to 8mm links, check with structural engineer, easier to bend to get the tight radius.Ā 1

Yes we can drop to H8 as well, though with the ones Iāve checked with was still 100 or 110.Ā Ā 36 minutes ago, BadgerBodger said: Ā On the bending sizes and radii, factory bent will give you the most options. We donāt have crazy amount and itās pretty much straight bars or square links but Iād still rather avoid bending them on site if I can
Russell griffiths Posted April 17, 2025 Posted April 17, 2025 If you can go 8mm i would bend them on site, simple jig and a hand bender.Ā
WannabeBob Posted April 17, 2025 Author Posted April 17, 2025 I might spend more time making a jig than bending bars! Ā

Chanmenie Posted April 18, 2025 Posted April 18, 2025 I had similar issue, ended up buying a rebar bender and making my own. Ā It worked out quite a bit cheaper than buying ready made links even allowing for the bender
Russell griffiths Posted April 18, 2025 Posted April 18, 2025 @Nickfromwales is a bit of a bender 𤣠1 1
Chanmenie Posted April 18, 2025 Posted April 18, 2025 Got it from eBay, itāll do up to 14mm bar ill sell it if your interested but Iām a few miles from Cambridgeshire as Iām near NorwichĀ 1

Ā Go back and just check the design with you SE, in case there is an annotation error.. it happens. Ā Ā

Yes, weāve checked the dimensions with them and according to our SE thatās the āstandard detailā approved by the ICF manufacturer whoāll come on site to help with the first lift as well.Ā 1
