YodhrinForge Posted February 3 Posted February 3 So there's a possibility I'll have to do my renovation project all in one go rather than bit by bit while living in the house as I'd originally planned and I'm considering what the most cost effective and convenient accommodations would be if I do. I have a double garage on the property to store all my crap in so it's just a place for my own carcass I need to consider - renting a flat nearby would cost me 800-1000 a month which isn't ideal, so I was wondering if anyone knows approximate costs for renting those little "pod" things I've seen at a few sites for longer term workers that are like, a single bed, a desk, a shower room, and a tiny little kitchenette that they just crane off the back of a truck and you plumb it in to amenities on site? I can find prices to buy them(yikes) but as usual for rentals everyone want to take all my personal info to give me a specific quote when I'm still at the stage of considering general options and just want a ballpark figure to see if it's worth considering. I expect there are minimum periods etc, but just an idea whether it would be cheaper than renting a whole flat for say, six months would be useful.
nod Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Can’t help with the price But the largest part of the cost will be delivery and pickup 5-6 k will soon get eaten up
ToughButterCup Posted February 3 Posted February 3 £1000 quids worth of pure joy sorted it for us. A small TEU ( container). Sales rooms for internal furniture £100, made other stuff from scrap wood. And stored my cement in there too. Simples! Cheepls!
ProDave Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Yes buy a caravan. Believe it or not they were designed for portable human accommodation. Either buy the largest touring caravan you can find and tow it to site yourself, or buy a static caravan which will need to be delivered.
saveasteading Posted February 3 Posted February 3 19 minutes ago, ProDave said: Yes buy a caravan End of commercial life caravans on 'holiday' sites are cheap as long as you don't mind a lot of cleaning and putting up with the shabbyness. I drove past such a site yesterday and there were a dozen roadside for sale. The wheels on most are for tax avoidance purposes and not for towing, so make sure they include delivery. We have one that was included with the sale whuch we use as office. The farm worker occupants had clearly been clean and proud people, but there was 20 years of muck and mice in the hidden areas.
Russell griffiths Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Move into the double garage, add a bit of a wooden extension to it, put things like a woodburner in the extension to dry clothes and boots, small shower and kitchenette buy a shipping container for your furniture/ junk.
